I don't get the clean tone I like from my gainy amps, so I prefer to start with an amp with great cleans (i.e., Fender Super Reverb) and add overdrive when necessary.

I am usually happy with overdrive and boost from my amp, so it would be a wah, though maybe not my Crybaby or Bad Horsie 2.

My Lovekraft Mojo Drive. When I got that overdrive pedal, my leads came alive (its the best I've found so far, even after comparing other highend pedals by manufacturers like Pro Analog and Analogman) and its been absolutely essential ever since. At $150, it didn't break the bank... I really gotta get another one because they are that good IMHO.
