On the bench - Ibanez X-series Destroyer

Brought in this afternoon - had to share. Original owner, original case, all original parts - it's been played. It's dinged up, scratched, gouged, just gigged hard. It was filthy. Gave it a good bath, some new strings and a setup from scratch. Plays like a dream, sounds like a monster. These things are GREAT! I'd say it's an '83 model.

I seem to remember a guitar like this on the cover of Guitar Player back in the 80s. The story was about the upcoming boom in quality guitars made in Japan.

My bass player had the DII bass. The thing sounded like thunder. I remember one recording engineer getting frustrated because he said it sounded like the bass strings were being hit with a 2x4. We were like, "Yeah, we know that is why we like it. Let it go."

I had one of the very first Destroyer basses.... It was kind of pinkish-orange with cream P-J pickups, 32" scale. It was awesome. Played it for years, finally sold it to some idiot who ruined it by painting it white and patting it dry with dirty carpet. All to match his guitar players white Kramer.

My bass player had the orange but had it painted Iridescent black; it looked fantastic. Our road manager was an auto painter for his day gig.

Looked kinda like this
