One Amp to Rule Them All?

If you had to choose one amp to do everything you need, and well, what would choose? No pedals, just straight into the amp.

If I had to pick, I'd say a VHT Sig:X. Every time I've gotten my hands on that amp, I've been blown away at how it responded to everything I threw at it. Close runner up is probably a Bogner XTC, but I've less time with that one.

What say you?

Re: One Amp to Rule Them All?

Huh, good question. I'm leaning towards a Carvin Belair, especially if mods are allowed. Most likely a Supersonic would work too, as I like...wait for it...a loose crunch. A custom Hovercraft would be "it" for sure as well, and since his production is basically all custom I think it counts.

Re: One Amp to Rule Them All?

I would be fine with either a Vox AC30 or Bogner Ecstasy. It seems like the second would be more versatile, but the Vox just does its own thing so well.

I'd have to go with either a Fryette Sig:X or a Blackstar Series One 200 watt head or a Bogner XTC maybe Shiva.

Re: One Amp to Rule Them All?

my orange thunderverb 50. for heavy rock it is very versatile. has decent cleans too, and tube reverb.

Re: One Amp to Rule Them All?

There is only one amp that can rule them all. I dare the cork sniffers to disagree... I DARE YOU!

Have you spent much time with either? Explain to me how you came to this conclusion. Did you actually play those 2 very different amplifiers and compare them to all the others out there?

Haven't we gone over this before?

Can't imagine the Twin Reverb - or any amp, really, - that can handle every style of music with just its own internal guts, so the "end thread" seems a im/premature.

Re: One Amp to Rule Them All?

Since the post wasn't specifically "tube", I'm gonna be the first to be that guy and post this.

120w, stereo outs for extension cabs, very reliable and widely regarded as one of the best modelers built. The Vox fans consider most all the Valvetronix amps after this one (up until the new Pro series apparently) to be a big step back in tonality.

Re: One Amp to Rule Them All?

Without dreaming of amps I've never played, I can safely say if I was only allowed to use one amp til the end of days I'd be happy to stick with my Mark IV.

I have already felt quite content for 3 years

My needs are not particularly diverse. To be honest I'd probably choose an amp I've never played:

Yes I've played both. I've played much more with an AC30 though. I'm completely aware they are two different sounds, but I really like those two different types of sounds. That's all there really is to it.

I apologize if I haven't listened to your advice before. You're the only omnipotent member on this forum, and I'll be sure to listen from now on. I am only as knowledgeable on anything as you, and only you, say I am. But I must add, you seem obsessed with my posts. Why not just ignore them like any healthy human being?
