As far as switches go, I'd say the TS808 has the worst system. That sticky, unreliable switch is a real pain in the rear. There is nothing worse than going into a solo only to have your overdrive decide for you that you don't need any more gain.

I have definitely seen this on the TS808, and the TS9 was much better. However, they've built and re-issued so many of these (100s of thousands? millions?) , I'm sure there are issues in various runs.

Maxon also does well on the button od808 style. Nice and soft and no big click.

The tiny electronic switch on the TS5 was terrible, as are the stock Line 6 DL4 switches.

I'm curious to know if they actually use something different and what. There are only a few manufacturers of actual high cycle rate heavy duty switches

It's a "soft switch". The switch itself is soldered to the PCB with the soft button on it. The button footswitch seen on the pedal is simply used to push the button inside the pedal. There's a soft spring in the back side that presses against the soft switch button on the PCB to engage/disengage the circuit. A pretty cool design. There's been reports of them having issues but it appears that is due to the button switch on the PCB, not necessarily the mechanical switch that is stepped on. I don't know if there is a "flip flop" circuit in them like Boss uses or not. I personally haven't dug in to them that deep.

I’ll vouch for the entire 5-series Soundtank range as being awful as far as switching goes.

The brilliant, tank-tough design of those Boss pedals, and the fact that they still sound pretty good, is probably why there have always been a bunch of them on my floorboard.
