Open covers

Wanting to put open covers on my SH-2N and SH-16. Is it just a case of soldering the cover to the pickup base plate? Is these anything else I need to do?

Re: Open covers

You install them exactly like a regular cover - clean a spot on the pickup base, hold the cover down tight, and solder it to the base.

Re: Open covers

If you don't solder them down tight you may get squeals. Some people clamp them lightly while soldering.

Re: Open covers

I like to put a double sticking tape onto the slug bobbin. This dampens the cover and avoids contact between slugs and cover. A dab of silicone works great, too.

All the prior replies are good input.

Just want to add, that in case you would ever want to put the metal covered pickup *in series* with another pickup, the you would need to undo the "solder cover to base" work approach described above, and add a ground wire allocated just for the cover. So, if you foresee that wiring config need in your future, you would probably want to add the separate wire now vs doing the rework. BTW: this requirement applies to any metal cover, open/"radiator" style or not. (ref: https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/27619-mod-garage-ultra-flexible-hh-wiring)
