i've got a schecter c-1 with a coil tap/ and a tune-o-matic bridge. I'm wondering what pickups i should instal to get a metallica type tone....and whether i should get the bridge pickup with trembucker spacing or not....
open to suggestion

I had a C1 with a '59/Distortion setup (no coil tap) that could nail Metallica. And the Bridge pup was trem spaced even with the fixed bridge. I have 2 SG's now, both with fixed bridges and the newer Gothic SG has a wider spacing than my older SG X. So I went with a trem spaced pup for it.

A Distortion, Custom, JB or Invader would probably get you where you wanna go.

I'd go with a Custom. It'll have more mids than your typical Metallica tone would ask for, but it'll sound better, too.
