Opinions of my Strat?

Here she is. Started life as a 1995 Deluxe Plus Strat in a weird transparent yellow, (not blonde, almost 50's yellow but transparent) with the Red/Silver/Blue Lace Sensors and TBX. I picked it up used in college for under $400 which I thought was a great deal (I think it was pretty good) I eventually changed out the neck for a Duncan APS-1 and the bridge for a Dimarzio Virtual Vintage. It was better than the Sensors, and I really liked the APS, but eventually I grew tired of the heavy and ugle ash body. I found the black body on ebay, it was also from a mid 90's Deluxe Plus, I got the Pearl guard and Tele knobs from Warmoth and the pickups are now SSL-1/SSL-1/Rio Grande Stelly. The neck is supurb, I love the shape and how it fits in my hand.

So it turns out, as much as I love black Strats, it's really the Black/Maple combo that gets me, the rosewood is just too much dark all going on. I really like the way it sounds now, the SSL-1's are great and the Stelly is a cool bridge pickup, lots of oomph but still the single coil characteristic. I don't know if I'm looking for cosmetic advice, or what, but maybe some of the comments might lead me down a path to really liking the guitar.

It's still got some of the Plus quirks like the Floyd Rose licensed bridge (locks but doesn't have fine tuners), locking tuners and LSR nut. Sorry about the dust and grime, I just pulled it out of the case for the first time in a few months.

something should be done about those saddles.... pretty bad looking. Another thing for cosmetic stuff you could do is add a solid black pickguard with white around the edges; then put on normal white knobs and you'd have a helluva David Gilmour-ish strat goin

Hahaha, like the idea of Gilmourizing it hasn't crossed my mind! ;)

I always picture Gilmour's Strat with the Maple neck from earlier in his career.

The saddles are kind of rusty, almost like the original finish has been worn off. Any suggestions on how to clean them up?

Nothing you can do about the bridge except get a new one from Ebay. It looks cool that way though. Don't change it unless it's giving you problems. I remember that Gilmour strat. The first video I saw of them was when they played in Rome in that ampitheater. I think that was the strat he used in that video.

In fact, before the maple neck, he had a rosewood neck on it. So you're actually still there anyways. You can just say that it's true old school Gilmour. I've always wanted an all black strat with white pups and a maple neck like his for a long time

As for the saddles, I'm no expert on this kinda stuff at all, but it looks like you might be able to get away with steel wool and just kinda rubbing the junk off of 'em

Looks a lot like my Strat. I like the chrome Tele knobs, to hell with tradition!

Do you still have the old yellow body?

this sounds weird, but some coca cola and steel wool might do the trick for getting the rust off. You'd want to remove them completely and set them in some kind of rust remover, maybe CLR, then use the coke and steel wool.

Cool strat man, I like the pearl pickguard on black with the chrome knobs.

Yeah, in my parents basement/my soldering station. ;) Next time I'm over there I'll pick it up and shoot a pic. I've never seen that color before, I'm not sure if it was left in the sun a long time or if that's just what color it was.

dude, she looks like a strat has to look like. i'd spend her a jumbo refret job and
play the hell out of her. black isn't my color, but the perloid guard fits well that way.

I had those knobs on for a while and ended up going back to the traditional one because the trem bar would hit them when screwed in all the way. I think they look fine on your guitar. For me they were a lot more functional and made volume swells a bit easier. My 2 cents...

I think it would look better with a Tortoise guard. Chrome knobs are OK. That was a good deal BTW!

Man... I dig it just as it is. I wouldn't change diddly shizzle about it either. I like the chrome knobs and I think they look fine. I'm not a traditionalist though. The rust on the bridge says "I'm loved". Do what makes you happy bro and only change what you don't like.

I like the aged bridge, the pearl pickguard is cool. I prefer maple necked strats too but nothing wrong with rosewood..........I don't care for the chrome domes!

Other than the bridge looking in a bad state and the lack of Bucker in bridge, I like it.
Heck I even like the volume and tone controls too.:)

Looks fine to me too. Then again... All my Fenders have white Perloid pick guards :D
