Opinions on 24" scale

I'm getting a Warmoth neck for my project guitar. I'm looking at either 24.75" or 24" scale. The body will be machined aluminum, either Tele stlye, or a Gibson DC stlye. The neck will be either straight up maple, or maple/ebony. I know it won't sound like a typical Tele with either of those scale lengths, I just want opinions. Are 24" scales too floppy and undefined? I will be using either 11s or 12s on this axe. I will track down a Mustang this weekend to play, but until then I request your experet advice.

I love my '65 Duo-Sonic. I string up with Daddario 11's (11-49) and it plays fine. The intonation is a bit funky as you move past the 12th fret, but I think that problem has more to do with the 3 saddle bridge than with the scale length.

BTW, my 24.75" axes are strung with a 10-52 set and my 25" and 25.5" scale length guitars are strung with 10-46 sets. :burnout:

i got two. they got that different, rubbery sound. very vintage. I really can't say whether i'd reccommend it or not. definitely a personal preferance

I don't mind 24" scale too much... (24.75 is my favorite)

More note access, easier bending, use heavier strings and its not floppy or undefined.

hey bro, I gave 24" scale a chance twice...hate it! Hard to intonate, cramped spacepast the 7th or so fret, strings are pretty floppy, I just don't care for it at all.

I'm with Christian... I hate it. I had an old Mustang, and the scale length was one of a list of things that sucked royally about it.

There's a reason nobody uses 24"... it's stupid :laugh2:

What styles do you play?

Unfortunately I have no recording equipment. I can tell you it is my favorite tone material. Nothing sounds like it, nothing feels like it. The resonation tends to move through aluminum more deeply, and it is very warm sounding. An aluminum neck just feels so awsome in my hands, never played an all aluminum body/wood neck though.

Thanks fo the input. I guess I'll have to track a Mustang down this wekend and see for myself. I decided on the single cut Tele style, I just wanted to make it easier to play.

24 3/4 is good, and remember this...your Kramer is 25" even! Also, if you can find a Burns Brian May guitar they have a 24" scale as well as a Fender Jaguare, Jag-Stang, Mustang...these all have shorty necks. Good luck bro!
