Opinions on the Boss CS-3

Re: Opinions on the Boss CS-3

Hey, i just bought one a few weeks ago. i'm very happy with it. it is very transparent. Does not change my tone at all. I bought this to help tighten up my Metallica rythm sound and I think it has helped.

I was also gonna try the MXR super comp but was pleased with the Boss, so I never tried the MXR.

Re: Opinions on the Boss CS-3

I've had both, and I prefer the dyna comp a lot....man...the CS-3 was ok, but prone to problems..and from one day to the next, the same setting wouldn't quite sound the same. I went with the Dyna Comp and never looked back...rugged, reliable, simple....great effect

Re: Opinions on the Boss CS-3

I've got one, and it's a cool sound, but definitely a processed sound. It's also pretty hissy (high noise floor). I don't use it as my main compressor anymore. I think there are better options out there.

Re: Opinions on the Boss CS-3

Agreed with the people above, had the CS-3 and wasn't liking it so I went to the MXR dyna comp. The CS-3 was alot more noisy that the MXR. I couldn't turn the sustain or gain up past halfway without it feeding back like hell. I tried every different setting possible and it still got feedback. It took alot of tweaking to get even something close to what I liked with the CS-3. I like the simplicity of the MXR, 2 knobs and your on your way. I can turn those knobs all the way up with no feedback, but having the knobs all the way up is to compressed any way so I don't have to worry about it. I'd vote for the MXR if it is just between these two.
