Opinions on the Fulltone OCD

Re: Opinions on the Fulltone OCD

There are three different versions, so you need to figure out which is the one you want. V1 is very bright, V2 is much darker, and I haven't heard V3 yet.

Cheers,

CJ

Re: Opinions on the Fulltone OCD

I just sold mine. I thought it was a great pedal overall, but I barely used it and it just seemed to be missing something soundwise... Some people will claim it is too hi-fi and sterile sounding, some will say that it nails you Marshall in a box tone. Either way, there are people here that can recomend you something that is better!

I am not sure which one I own, but I got rid of another before I was given this one and it fits while the previous one did not...

Made me wonder about the QC at Fulltone, why would one have killer tone and the other be hi-fi and sterile.

Re: Opinions on the Fulltone OCD

Dunno which version I had , but I borrowed one for a few weeks. I thought it was very average. I can't figure out what the hype about this pedal was about. There are so many pedals I'd choose over the OCD for the overdrive/distortion thing: G2D classic and custom, MI crunchbox and blues boy deluxe, DAM rooster booster, Keeley modded stuff...

Re: Opinions on the Fulltone OCD

Basically spend your money on another pedal....There are lots to choose from.

Re: Opinions on the Fulltone OCD

I sold mine too, I had version 2 and while it was a good pedal, there are much better ones out there.

Re: Opinions on the Fulltone OCD

I've got a version 2 and I do like it alot. It's a good pedal, but I do want to try out some others, like the Box of Rock.

Re: Opinions on the Fulltone OCD

I have one and I love the thing! I'm also using a Spina TS-9 at the moment... i got bit by the Tubescreamer bug and got one and I'm currently exploring the sounds of it but the OCD is a staple part of my rig. I like it... very transparent, hi-fi but not overly bitey, rich, smooth, chock full of harmonics, articulate, love it! Its like a little Marshall in a can. I have a v.1 and i haven't tried the others... i understand the newer ones are brighter. Whatever... i LOVE mine!

Re: Opinions on the Fulltone OCD

I have V1, and I do turn the tone knob back a bit.

I love it. I haven't tried the MI Audio crunch Box, but for me this IS the a great Marshall in a Box. I had to do a rehearsal yesterday and I know a vintage Bandmaster was there. I had my OCD in the gig bag, and boom - the producer who hired me was instantly pleased - if that says anything.

I have used it live a LOT. It cleans up nice when you turn down the volume. It also turns a gained up amp into a gain machine. It's all about the pairing and what you are after.

I think the Radial Tonebone stuff is similar enough, though I havent had experience such that I can acct for touch response. I played in a country/pop band and I never turned the OCD off. I think the ToneBone stuff is better in that it was it's own boost and all built in so you have 2 channels, but the OCD is small and runs on 9v.

When I want bigger mids and feel, I do like the Keeley Ts9 though I don't own one. I also love the fulltone FD2 - my fave pedal.

Re: Opinions on the Fulltone OCD

this is killing me. So many options to choose from. What really sucks is that I don't know squat about pedals - I've always plugged straight in to the amp. Can you guys give me a little direction?

The sound I am after is a cranked plexi. I listen to Zeps "How the west was won" and I am just in awe by his tone.

My amps/guitars are in my sig. Any idea on how I can achieve that tone with my a pedal and my gear?

Re: Opinions on the Fulltone OCD

I would put the MI Audio Crunch Box and the ZVex Box of Rock well ahead of an OCD. For the best value and killer tone, it's hard to go past the Crunch Box, although the Box of Rock gives you an extra boost stage as well, at a price. From what you've described, I think you'd be really happy with a Crunch Box.

Cheers..................wahwah

Re: Opinions on the Fulltone OCD

Thanks wah-wah...the price is right on that crunchbox too.

What do you guys think about the Carl Martin Plexitone or Tonebone Plexitube? $300 bucks for a pedal is a little steep but both look pretty versatile.

i bought the cm plexitone a few months ago, and i havent looked at another od/dist unit since..
i think its slightly cheaper than the plexitube..i got mine for $189 new..

i personally dont use the high gain side very much, i like the crunch channel more..
as you turn up the level, i like how there is some compression to create that tube 'sag'
i havent' played through an authentic plexi, but put in front of a Marshall 1974X 18W, it sounded damn similiar to some plexi recordings ive heard
its raw and open sounding unlike many distortion pedals with no musical quality..
the boost feature is also great when i want slightly more gain and volume

i run it through the clean channel with just a hair of gain (laney lc15R)

and most of all, it loves my new gibson les paul:14:

also, it works better with british flavored amps..marshalls, laneys..

i emailed Rid (who designed the pedal) the guts of my plexitone and he told me that it was one of the first batch of 50 that had the darker pot values..best of all, he soldered it!..an added bonus..

lots of people here love the plexitone..you should also do a search..lots of threads on it
