Optima gold strings

Anyone tried them?

I recently discovered them in the shop where I typically order my strings in bulk. They're a bit more costly than Pyramids that are my current favorite string brand, but I don't mind the cost as strings seem to last for ages with me.

I used those back in the day, more than 20 years ago. I think they were called Maximas back then. The gold came off pretty quick, but the strings lasted and sounded very bright. They had a teflon coated version that wasn't quite as bright to me but lasted 3 times longer than any other string I've ever used.

I knew one guy who posted (different forum) that he had the same set of Maximas on his guitar for 20 years. I tried a set on a guitar of mine, and didn't like the sound. It just wasn't for me.

Re: Optima gold strings

I remember using some about 20 years ago as well. I don't remember much about them though.

Re: Optima gold strings

When they were still called Maxima strings, both Frank Zappa and John Entwhistle used to use them. Entwhistle, who had been a Rotosound endorser for years, said they were the first strings that made him change from the Rotos. They are expensive, as noted.
