Optimal P-90 bridge output

Hi guys,

Need your advice!
I'm getting my gibson P-90 re-wound and was wondering on what would be a good output range to get it wound to? i was thinking 10-11k?

the stock gibson is abit bland sounding, not enough presence and bass in the bridge position, its got treble but i dont even think its a "good" treble. I want a guitar with a nice solid bottom end, but also some sparkle and chime qualities to it, upper mids maybe,

I put a SP-903 in there but didnt dig the ceramic feel, my guitar lost its sparkle. At the moment ive got a SP-901 neck in there (originally intended for the neck position but didnt fit). it actually sounds okay, abit "flimsy" and hollow in the bridge position though.

ideally i think the SP90-1b would be a good choice for what im looking for, but im gonna try this re-wind option cause i want my guitar to look all original
(les paul studio gem, gold poles etc). Are the gibsons A2 or A5?

Thanks!
Mike

Re: Optimal P-90 bridge output

One thing to consider is that the more winds around the magnet, the more output, but also the more mids and less treble. To me, with P90s, there is point where if the output is too high the mids had get really annoying in a sort of honky way.
A good person to get advice on the exact level of output would be Jason Lollar.

Re: Optimal P-90 bridge output

iirc, p90s are gauged by the number of turns around the bobbin. the norm would be 10,000 rounds. depending on your taste, it can be overwound or underwound in percentage.

Re: Optimal P-90 bridge output

would 10,000 turns be hot output or vintage?

Has anybody used the dimarzio P-90 sized humbuckers?
