Orange Amps?!?!?

Re: Orange Amps?!?!?

It's all comparatively speaking. From what I heard, the Orange cleans are nicer than what I can get from my VHT or a DSL. I do love cleans, but I'm a huge overdriven rocker which was one of the reason's i'm looking at Orange.

Hmmm, you better think on swap your tubes!!

The Orange Rockerverb 50 is a good amp but, I don't think it can be better for a rocker than a DSL!!!!. The DSL can sound better at lower volumes than the Orange. This I know by heart, since I have a Marshall 1923C 85th anniversary combo, that is, more or less a DSL 50.
Nothing rocks as a Marshall!. Forget it!.

I'm basically using the classic/clean channel and, shaping the tone with some pedals in front. DSL cleans are surpresively good for a Marshall, BTW!. But, don't forget to switch off that "depth" switch!.

Things that work awesome, in front:

Good overdrive: my preferred one is Wampler's Euphoria
Good distortion: my preferred one is Wampler's Sovereign
Plexiratization: Wampler's Plexi Drive, just a touch to make your DSL to sound as a JTM45 or a 1959.
THE TOUCH: Xotic EP Booster, just before your delay, just a touch.
Good delay: my preferred one is Wampler's Faux Tape Echo.

Hear how this sounds (forget my playing, just hear the sound):

Did you noticed that in this more recent video the Rockerverb went out?.
LOL

I'm not a fan of the DSL. I've owned a few.

The Orange crunch is closer to the style of music I will be playing.

Re: Orange Amps?!?!?

Which Orange would be right for me?

I'm starting a new band. The guitarist is more blues/classic rock orientated and I'm more 90s rock, so our sound will be a cross between. Think Black Keys meets Chili Peppers meets early 90s (athenauem, collective soul, gin blossoms ) meets 80s gnr.

None. No Orange for your new band.
Don't get orange.
It will not fly with that singer or style.

Re: Orange Amps?!?!?

lol! orange has been around since the 1970s but ya most did not use orange until the last 10 years; really the tiny terror put em on the map and that was 6 years ago!

so it is true that chili peppers and those 90s bands are not going to be using orange amps ;) I do know that whatever genre or band, as long as it is rock or heavy rock, my answer is orange! haha my convictions lie with orange ;)

Re: Orange Amps?!?!?

I've owned the Thunderverb, Rockerverb, Tiny Terror and own the Jim Root Terror.

All have the same basic Orange tone. It's thick, vintage-meets-modern with plenty of gain, perfect for stoner rock type stuff. It's a great tone, but not a chimey clean or very cutting tone. More thick, wooly and heavy.

This was my impression too. I originally started playing them because I'm into sludgy guitar tones, and aside from them being the choice of trendy hipsters for awhile the only guys I still see using them are dudes in sub-genres that are known for their sludgy guitars.

I eventually switched back to a Dual Rectifier as it suited my playing style better. I'd like to get my hands on an AD30R some day.

I guess I'll say it again.

The Bogner Shiva fits the description of what you're looking for so accurately you might as well have asked "What amp sounds like a Bogner Shiva?"

Two channels- beautiful lush cleans and a big, wide, full-sounding drive channel that falls somewhere short of pure metal but is perfectly voiced for rock.

Just saying.

Re: Orange Amps?!?!?

And the 20th actually covers metal pretty well.
I've had the 20th for a few weeks, and it's probably the best amp I've ever used.
