Orange or Traynor?

Hi, I have decided to get either the Orange Rocker 30 or the Traynor YCV20WR. Which of these amps do you think I should get? I mostly play rock stuff like GnR and Aerosmith. Do you think I can get Fender-like clean and Marshall-like dirty from either of these amps? Price is also an issue as Orange is much more expensive... Which do you think is a better choice? Or any other suggestions (max 30W)?

Traynor Blue 50. Fender like cleans, Marshall like OD all in a tight package under $650.

After some research, I think i have narrowed down to only 3 amps:
1) Orange Rocker 30 (expensive)
2) Traynor YCV50 BLUE (50 watts may be abit too loud)
3) Laney LC15R (anyone tried it?)

Any opinions on any of these amps?
Which do you think will produce the closest tone to Fender/Marshall?

I think for the same amount of money, you'll get way more from Traynor.

Either would probably be great. Traynors are great bang for the buck amps. I only played an orange once about two weeks ago. I forget the model, but I think it was a 50 watter and it was like $850 more than the Traynor. It sounded great, but I'm not sure for the price difference you're getting that much of a better amp.

I really love orange amps. Wonderful crunchy sound... but they are pricey.

The Orange is a wicked amp, but you will probably get more for your money with the Traynor.

No, only the Crush amps are SS. apparently they stink, as well, which is a shame.

I was looking at the YCV20 vs. the Orange AD15 (now discontinued), and I went with the AD15. It was a richer sounding amp and had less background noise at idle. Theoretically, the Traynor offered more tonal options, but I only liked the clean channel. I did like the Traynor YCV20 better than the Fender Juniors. In any event, I recently got a great deal on a Bad Cat Cub IIR, which is on a whole different level, so my AD15 and Pro Jr. may be going on the block anyway.

I imagine that the Rocker 30 is a really nice amp, but the Oranges generally seem to lack a bit of low end for my current tastes, although the mids are extremely nice and rich. I haven't tried the Traynor Blue 50, but I didn't like the 40 watter as much as the YCV20, so I'd have to hear it before purchasing. That's the best advice anyway -- try before you buy if at all possible.

The Rocker 30 is more of a modern voice than your average Orange, there is plenty of bottom end considering its a 1x12.

I imagine that the Rocker 30 is a really nice amp, but the Oranges generally seem to lack a bit of low end for my current tastes, although the mids are extremely nice and rich.

Whilst THIS orange might have a good bass to it, Orange made its name as having amps with fantastic crunch tones; not mad scooped sounds, or bass heavy, but caustic mid-ranges for rhythm or lead.


An epi 335 with a '59 at the bridge, through a Boss SD-2 into an Orange all-valve half stack...

I've heard some great sound clips from Traynor but I remember when Wishbone Ash first started recording I saw them live and they used Orange Amps. They had serious tone. I'm sure that Blue 50 Traynor has plenty of punch for a decent sized venue.

I'll chime in and say that if you aren't aware, the new YCV50 runs on EL34's for that classic Marshall sound. Price-wise, it is a very well priced amp. Also, you mentioned 30 watts max. The YCV50 has a master volume so you can drive the tubes at low volume and you have the added headroom of 50 watts when you need it.

The orange rocker 30 runs on EL34s too. It has a master volume and i have asked guys at orange forum that it will sound good at low levels.. One more thing that i really wanted it is because it is simple (only a few knobs) and the looks KILLS..
The only setback now is the price which im going to pay ard $1400 US (shipping included to my country)
I could buy 3 laneys LC15R with that money which i have heard sounds like a JCM800 with better cleans..
Decisions.. Decisions..

Buy a Traynor, painter's tape, and orange spraypaint. Problem solved!
