Hello guys,

We just released a video demo of the Orange OR120 head:

Check it out and tell me what you think!

Cheers

Great job on that demo folks! That's a nice raw sample of this amazing amp.

What do I think? I respect its sound greatly as a sound engineer but it's very very far from my taste as a guitarist.

The second thought was, WOW what a SUNN Beta "flatbed" in the backround! Would you do a demo of that, too?

Thanks NecroPolo!
I understand you don't like the tone of this amp. For sure it is not an amp for everyone and for the same reason some guys are really crazy about it.
Me I really liked the tone with the Gretsch, I think it is really great for that indie rock tone.
I do also like the fuzzy stoner rock tone with the SG Custom. I think it would sound great in a mix with another guitar playing a Marshall amp for example. Personally I am more a Marshall guy (maybe you check this one out), but I really enjoyed playing the amp.

For sure we'll demo the Sunn beta lead soon!

Very true! It has its own thing going on. Fuzzy sound is not really my way to go but I have recorded a band somewhere around 2009 with the very same OR120 as in your video and this sound fitted them like a glove. This amp generated dense and defined tracks, it was really easy to mix. After the recording session I played the amp a little and it did not sound good in my hands. Maybe, I played JCMs for too long before :) The feel like home to me.

I have already seen your Marshall video, also a good one. I definitely keep an eye on the SUNN video!

I think it does what it does very well. Not for me but Nice nonetheless.
I hear many useful tones in that amp.

Re: Orange OR120 head video demo

That was a really good demo. I especially liked the fact that the playing wasn't too fast, allowing one to hear how notes decay. That's important to hearing the character of an amp.

I also liked the variety of gain settings and guitars used. You hear demos that are, like, 5 minutes of high gain, and that's not useful b/c you've heard everything you need to hear in the first 15 seconds.

It was very interesting to hear AC/DC riffs played through an Orange. If you're familiar with the riffs, you really get a sense of how different the Orange is from a Marshall voicing.

Good job, 2 Guys!

Thank you for that nice feedback :)
Yes, we try to demo with simple riffs and licks because for us this is the best way to show how it sound too. And any way we never managed to play fast at all Ahahahah :D

Re: Orange OR120 head video demo

Been looking on YouTube for clips earlier this week for the or120 & then you guys come out with a demo clip for it. Yay! Liked the vid alot. Do the higher gain sounds on this amp always sound bit raw fuzzy & sorta scooped with different type of speakers as well? Also what happens with the FAC control more in clockwise direction?

Yes the more gain you add the more the fuzz kicks in. What I found is that using less gain and boosting the front end with a pedal allows to get less fuzz than just pushing the gain. But anyway you'll get that kind of raw and raspy crunch, it is the voice of the amp.

For the high gain part with the SG custom we were aiming for that specific stoner rock tone, we could have set it differently to have less fuzz. One thing to note is that if you like pretty bassy tone like me, you will never get tight low end with that head (at least we didn't manage to). This the frequency area were the fuzz is.

If you turn FAC clockwise you get more clarity and less muddiness. Overall the bass are very much attenuated, to my hear with FAC clockwise it des sound kind of like a big vox amp.
