Evening all, need to upgrade my TH30 for gigs and Rehearsals, nice sounding amp just underpowered for my needs and after 18 months the shape knob still does me head in. Will use the proceeds of the sale to buy a replacement head shortlisted are

Laney vr100
Laney GH 50/100
Orange Orange Crush 120 Head

Any other suggestions

Cool, yeah, more powerful Oranges would probably be a good place to start. Matamp, Green, Hovercraft, Verellen (spelling?) are all amps that are well-regarded for stoner rock and related genres. Anything inspired by classic Marshall amps would probably be worth considering? Laney sounds like a great idea.

Excellent response, thank you, trying to keep to a budget of £400, second hand.

Is that £400 including the proceeds of selling the amp? Because if you like the fundamental sound of the amp you have, I might have some other options for you, depending what you're open to. Such as running a pedal with two outputs in the effects loop, with the signal split into a solid state power amp like an EHX 44 Magnum or Mooer Baby Bomb and another cab, like a Harley Benton 1x12 with Vintage 30. Maybe a graphic EQ pedal too, to give more control than the shape knob?

I like those suggestions and thank you, however unlikely I'll be heading down that road but I like the run thought that went into it. I do already run a EQ in the loop, it's just not loud enough in the rehearsal environment.

A 50watt Jet City Amelia new is £415, that might do the job? Second hand Laneys or Marshalls. For £100-200 more you can get a Mesa Boogie Nomad combo on eBay in the UK, which is my personal choice. An Egnater Tweaker 40 head is under £500 new I think.

A Bugera 1960 Infinium is apparently 120 watts, and is their version of a classic Marshall-type amp, for under £400.

Just researching your suggestions, the Bugera looks like the best deal as its close to what I want, just seems to be some reliability issues around those amps.

Actually, if you get one of the newer ones (post 2012) you should be just fine. I have a 333XL Infinium from 2013 that I've gigged with a fair bit & it's never given me the slightest problem...none at all. Also know some guys with 6260's & 1960's that they bought around the same time as I got mine & they're happy as hell with them too

The 1960 is sweet, but the 333XL is also worth checking out for doom.

I play in a doom-death metal band myself (Candlemass/Sabbath-meets-early 90's death metal) ...and the 333XL sounds great for the stuff we play :bigthumb:

Here's a couple songs from my band's last ep that we recorded with it ... (just plugged straight in for the most part)
