Orange Thunderverb 50... headroom?

Hey Hey,

I am looking for a good tube amp, one that can handle pedals.

my rig...

Nashville Tele > EHX Soul Preacher > Boss SD-1 > EHX Nano Stone > EHX Micro POG > Akai Headrush > Boss DD-20 > (currently Vox AD50...) soon to add a EHX Big Muff Pi w/Tone Wicker and a Frequency Analyzer, once they hit the market.

my current favorite to fill the big space on stage behind me is the Orange Thunderverb... I tried one out in a store, but didn't have chance to 'push' it to check out its clean haedroom.

does anybody out there use one of these with pedals?

The one I tried sounded awesome... but I use my pedals for everything so I can't just go spend £1500 on some thing that goes gritty when cranked.

Know first that I have not tried the Thunderverb 50...

I do however own a Rockerverb 100... and the clean channel on it sounds like a plexi when you dime it.

AFAIK the Thunderverb breaks up even more since it has no real dedicated "clean" channel.

Re: Orange Thunderverb 50... headroom?

it's not gonna stay clean all the way up, but if you turn off all the attenuation & work the power amp volume it'll stay clean to a good volume

i dunno why you'd need a lot of dirt pedals though, that amp can do pretty much anything

+1

Running a dirt pedal into an Orange set for clean is a bit like carving out the back end of a Corvette and hauling firewood with it.

Cheers for the advice guys...

My sound really does require a good clean tone that can handle anything I throw at it with the pedals. I'm not sure whether to go Fender instead now?... or Vox?...

I just love the build quality on the Orange amps tho... no plastic jack sockets, and unlike the Vox, you don't have to dismantle the whole thing to change a tube!

The Orange AD140 will be more up your alley, but it's discontinued.

Also, the old OR120s stay clean pretty clean.

Or, you could just not screw around at all and get a Hiwatt Custom 100.

These amps won't do the Fender clean type thing, but you might find you like the natural compression they offer for your effects.

Hmmm... HiWatt you say... I've not looked into those yet.

much appreciated fellas!

Just look at the DR504...the 50 watter is way enough for most...The DR103 is 100 watts and well very loud.
Remember the tone lies within the Fane speakers, or something as clean and powerful as those!
