Order of FX in FX loop?

Hey guys.

I plan to use 4 pedals (Phaser, Delay, EQ and Chorus) in the FX loop of my Marshall JCM800 and JTM60 amps and was wondering what the 'best' order to connect them in would be?

I know there's the whole 'Tone before Time' thing when using FX in-front of an amp, but I didn't know if there's any such guidelines for FX in a loop?

Thanx for any opinions.

Nope. You can hook them up the same way. Go: EQ > Phaser > Chorus > Delay.

Hey Guys.

Thanx for the posts. I mainly use the EQ as a level boost for solos, so I think that should go at the end of the chain otherwise it could overload the input of the other pedals, if I correct in my thinking?

Isn't a phaser best placed before the amp? (i.e. before the pre-amp distortion)

This site has some interesting tips:

I always thought a Phaser was best placed after the Pre-amp?! Ah well :)

Thanx for the link Simon

Try it both ways and see what sounds best! Chorus and Delay definitely work better in the loop (to my ears) and you'll want your EQ in the loop if you're using it as a volume boost. I don't currently own a phaser, but I've been thinking about getting one as I've been having so much fun playing with the phaser built into my little Cube 30. :)

What phaser do you have? A friend of mine bought a Small Stone last year, but it was a serious tone-sucker so he took it back.

Put the EQ in the loop if you want a cleaner boost, put it in front of the amp if you want to break up a little more when you boost.

I have an old Ibanez/Maxon Phase Tone pedal.

It looks like an MXR Phase 90 (only 1 control) and is Blue (not Orange). It's not quite as extreme sounding as a Phase90, but on cleaner stuff it's really nice :)

I've found out that it can be quite a collectors item, so I've thought about selling it on and maybe make a little money on it ;)

I'll have to see how it goes.

Thanx for the tips with the EQ placement too guys.

I put my phase first in my signal chain. I don't like the sound of overdriven phase; but, I also know alot of people who like their phase in the loop. Also, and EQ is a neutral effect, you can safely put it anywhere within your signal chain, depending on what you want to accomplish with it.

Other than that;

Chorus -> Delay
