Ordered my FIRST Duncan. . .

I have tried almost ALL of the Dimarzios and for my mahgony ibanez sabre never found the right pickup. The PAF Pro works great in my basswood RG, but sounds too glassy and smooth in the sabre. Most of the other dimarzios were a disapointment with the exception of the norton which has nice tone, but it doesnt have the definition needed for speed runs. The tone zone and evolution were a totally-compressed joke. Too hot. Too small.

So I was looking for a medium output pickup that is trebly like the PAF pro, well defined for picked runs, but with more grit, more agression.

I ordered the Full Shred. I reqlly excited about it, my only worry is that it is too hot.

So if this doesnt work out, what should I try next? The Alnico ii is probably glassy like the paf pro. Maybe a pearly gates? Blues trembucker? Screamin Demon? How is that for speed runs?

Re: Ordered my FIRST Duncan. . .

The full shred is a medium output bucker. It is also a bright, clear, and tight sounding. From you description of what you are looking for, I would say you made a GREAT choice!!!! If the full shred dosent work, Possibly the demon might work for ya.

BTW, Welcome to the forum!!! Hope you stick around!!!

Re: Ordered my FIRST Duncan. . .

Yeah, sounds like the Full Shred should work, I don't like the Demon for those fast lead lines... From what you said I honestly don't think you would like that one... but I also don't have any other suggestions... Possibly the JB...
Good Luck, and Rock On

Thanks guys!

kac- Why do you not like the demon for fast lines? The demon was going to be my next choice. I think the JB is too hot for what im trying to do.

Re: Ordered my FIRST Duncan. . .

You need to tell in what wood your guitar is builded ( mahogany probably ) so that leed the choice to treebly or bassy ( not a lot of these in Duncan ) pickups and more important : bridge or neck pickup ?

Re: Ordered my FIRST Duncan. . .

Yes mahogany i just saw it in your post ...
For bridge i don't know the Full Shred , but it is the Duncan with the less basses .
As for the Demon it is a very balanced pickup that is crunchy and aggressive with a strong pick attack perfect for mahogany if you don't look for a distortion class pickup .
Other wise there are the JB ( i never tried it ) and the Distortion witch can be great in mahogany as well , or the Custom 5 ( to be recommended if your guitar doesn't suffer of a mid gap , and not too bassy ).
