Original dime slime

Re: Original dime slime

The original would be a Washburn 333 as far as I know..
My guess is it was probably invented by Dime and the Washburn custom shop.. Washburn had some seriously talented custom shop builders back then..

Re: Original dime slime

I thought the original Dime guitars were Dean then he switched to Washburn for a while before switching back to Dean. It's been years since I have seen one but I want to say all the Washburn series were marked "Diamond" instead of Dimebag because they were afraid of fallout over the pot reference.

He switched to Washburn because Dean went out of business until 2004 right before his death. He never officially resigned with Dean, but had made arrangements to when his contract with Washburn ended. He also never played the Razorbacks on stage as they weren't finished until after he passed away.

I believe the original Dime Slime was with Washburn. Before then, Dimebag used the Dean from Hell (the lightning bolt one) pretty much exclusively.

Re: Original dime slime

Yeah, the original Dime Slime was a Washburn 333.. The two Deans that Dime was originally associated with were his cherry burst and his Dime bolt.
Dime won one and his dad bought him the other, he received them both the same day. He sold the ML he won to Buddy Blaze who painted it with the lightning bolt we all came to associate with Dime.
Buddy eventually gave or sold it back to him and the rest is history. Dime and Dean didn't have a relationship other than he loved Dean Zelinsky until his post Washburn days..
Dean was out of business when Pantera took off and he was playing Randall so I think that's why he ended up at Washburn.
Dean didn't offer any signature Dime models until he left Washburn. He was with Washburn and Randall for 10 years. The only reason he left either is Dean and Krank gave him skin in the game and at that point he felt like he wanted to design and develop his own stuff and it be from Dimes vision..

I loved that dude! He was an awesome MOFO! Just cool as cool could be..

Re: Original dime slime

The original Dimeslime was a 3, not a 333. He never even held a 333 outside of photo shoots for promotions or whatever.

Dime 3: Mahogany/mahogany/maple cap/rosewood board/Schaller Floyd/BLUSA L500XL/SD 59/USA

Dime 333: Asian mystery wood body/maple neck/awful veneer flame top/wrong body shape/cheap import Floyd/Korea and later some Chinese stuff, iirc/cheap Washburn Eliminator pups

That's an oversimplification, as well. There were so many variations of import Dime Washys it'd take a novel.

There's no comparison.

He went by Diamond Darrell up to (and including) Cowboys From Hell.

Pretty sure they say "Dime" rather than "Dimebag."
