Fujigen made 59' Les Paul Standard & Les Paul Custom Black Beauty Orville's both with long Tenon & Seymour Duncan SH-5 Custom & 59' neck. Better than my Gibsons.

The Fujigen plant is still making guitars but not Orvilles. The 1990's era Orvilles are really nice.

Great guitars! I have two Orvilles. I agree they're as good as - or better than - Gibsons of the same period.

A friend recently harangued me about loving Made In Japan guitars, but my experience with them has been overwhelmingly positive. The sole exception has been one low end model, a '77 Greco LPC that isn't a bolt-on but has a tiny neck and cheap pots (still, it has a Duncan Distortion set in it so it rawks anyway!). The high grade lines are very good indeed. I have the two Orvilles, a Burny, a Tokai, and an Edwards LPC which is in transit on its way to me.

Fujigen is a high quality operation and they made some of the best during the heyday of MIJ guitars. They still build and sell guitars under the FGN name. Some of the Orvilles were Matsumoku made, with very good sounding factory PAFs.

I'll take an MIJ guitar any day, it's not a coincidence 70% of my electrics are MIJ.

I remember when MIJ guitars were looked down upon, in the 70s and into the 80s. I've plated some amazing ones in the last 30 years. Their attention to detail is amazing. I wonder if they were keeping an eye on complaints about American guitars.

I REALLY don't want to start anything here, but I was wondering what the difference was between these types of guitars (MIJ Gibson copies) and an actual Epiphone? Bearing in mind that I live in the rural Midwest and nobody near me sells things like the OP's...
I see MIJ stuff on ebay/reverb and am tempted (mostly because I can't get them here) and I can physically play EPis at whatever GC I can get to. Overall, how are the necks? A freind bought a Love Rock off ebay, and when it showed up, the neck was super dinky, like 1.5" nut width. I don't wanna end up with something I gotta get rid of right away because I hate the neck... The same friend bought an Epi-branded SG (with a Gibson shaped headstock) and it didn't seem any different than the G-400's I've tried locally. Are there better brands to concentrate on, or are they kinda all similar enough to just get what looks good?
