How can I tell if a pickup is out of phase? I had a C-5 a few months back that I thought sounded OK, but wasn't performing like I had hoped. When I sold it the buyer received it and said it was out of phase. Would this be why I didn't like the tone I was getting with it?
My real question is regarding the Alnico II Pro humbucker I have in the neck of my LP. I have been sorely disappointed with it's performance. I like it for cleans, however I was really hoping for a more Slash like lead tone. I have tried adjusting height (which helped some) and settings on my amp and guitar however I still find the pup very sterile and flat sounding. I actually had a much better Slash like tone with a '59 in the neck.
So I'm wondering if there's a chance that the A2P could be out of phase and thus not sounding right? If so how do I fix this? IF you think it may be something else can you give me a hand.
Thanks.
