Out of tune bends with Floyd

As I've been playing my Laiho V some more, I've noticed double stops go out of tune very often. If I play two notes and bend one, the one I'm not bending will go pretty flat--almost half a step. I've tried to find some things to help it by looking online, but I haven't really found anything helpful. On older threads on other forums, people just say "block it" or "its not noticeable, you'll be ok." Right now, the floyd on it has three springs in it and is set up with a little more room to pull up than push down (wasnt intentional, im still new to setting up floyds).

Is the floyd balanced incorrectly or do i need more springs in it, or is it something that could require a lot more attention?

Re: Out of tune bends with Floyd

Floyds do that, it's the nature of the beast. Actually any floating vibrato will do that and the only difference between various designs is how much of this happens. The things you're reading on the other forums are correct; the only way to prevent it is to block the bridge or use a trem stopper so that it's effectively dive-only.

I was kinda thinking nothing would help it, but most of the other threads were years old, so i wanted to confirm it still was the case. Probably gonna get a tremel-no for it pretty soon.

So much misinformation in this thread.

How about some Russian design?

and be done with it. This was the best 20 EUR (IIRC) ever spent for my Kramer. And IMHO by far the best design (NON INTRUSIVE) as far as trem stabilizers go. Taking it off/on takes about 20 seconds. No additional drills or other permanent mods.

interesting.

Re: Out of tune bends with Floyd

Since the Floyd must remain balanced by design, adding a 4th spring will also increase string tension, making it harder to do those bends.

What I've done is adapted my technique to bend the un-bent note to compensate. Alternatively, you can push down on the bridge when you do those bends.

For those who say "it's not noticeable", they probably mean to themselves when playing live and very loud, but to everyone else, especially those who are paying attention to the music itself rather than ejaculating over the fact that there's living breathing people playing music in person, it stands out like a neon ninja.

yes but at the same time is will keep the trem from being so effected by bending and is more rigid imo..yea.., bending might be harder. using the tremelo definitely is but i accepted the tradeoff as i rarely use the bar

Re: Out of tune bends with Floyd

It's funny, I love the way a Floyd feels when you palm mute. I love how they look and really like the drive bombs and all the cool stuff you can do with it.
I actually prefer a Hard tail due to my playing style and I have 3 guitars with Floyd Rose Trems and want a few more.
The very best thing in my opinion is the Blocking of the trem which prevents up pulls but still allows down bombs. It's the best of both worlds. Then you can also use a EVH D Tuna and drop D at ease. I feel it's the way to go.

I forgot to say that this is not a trem blocker by any means. The trem retains full motion on both directions. You can dive-bomb all you like and then pull up the bar all way up for those crazy diamond darrell harmonics, and the trem returns to perfect pitch. Play some bluesy bends and the un-bend string remains in perfect pitch. + No drilling on your favorite axe. That pretty much sums it all up.
