Out with the Budda, in with the Marshall Vintage Modern

Since having the pleasure of playing through a Metro Bluesbreaker for a few months last year I've wanted to pick up something along those lines again but with a tighter, less pronounced low end.

I never really knew about the VM until stumbling upon a quote by the designer saying that it's basically a hot-rodded JTM 45. That got my attention!

Came across the 2x12 combo version for about 40% of the price of a new one so I grabbed it.

Love this amp. To me it's the perfect Bluesbreaker. More gain, great master volume and tighter bass. Cleans up nicely with the guitar.

Got rid of both my Budda 18 and 1 watt JCM1. The Budda had a great dirty tone but wouldn't clean up that well with the guitar using it as a single channel amp, and the shared EQ was tough to dial in as a 2 channel amp.

cool, I'd love to have one. love the jewel light too. congrats!

(probably not the best place to lean your axe given the propensity for jacks to get screwy. but something tells me this isn't your first rodeo.)

Ha, no worries, it's only there for the photo.

One more thread like this and it will cause me to spend a bunch of money I shouldn"t. Nice amp. What speakers does the combo use?

Congrats Bro!

That is my fave "new" Marshall since the 1980s. That would be ky first pick in a new amp, assuming no volume restrictions ;)

My now defunct local shop got one in (head and cab) when they first came out. Couple of sales guys complained about the tone. I went and plugged a Murphy R9 into it and dialed in something pretty quick and they were surprised how great the amp sounded. Gotta dial in your tone with those preamps, the mid boost and dynamic range, and then fine tune with the regular tone stack. I have been in love with the VM ever since.

I am jealous....grrrrrrr

These are a steal on the used market. It has the Greenbacks that were designed for the Hendrix cabs - the Celestion G12C.

Congrats Bro!

Thanks Jeff. I'm tellin' ya, I don't see how anyone could give these amp the thumbs down. I just had the house to myself (crank it time!) and confirmed how much I love this amp. I like it better than the Metro GPM 45 Bluesbreaker I treated myself to for a while (used of course!).

Yep, the manual says set the TMB and Presence to noon and work the 2 preamps first and fine tune from there.

I really feel like I got an incredible deal from a GC in New Jersey for $699.

Re: Out with the Budda, in with the Marshall Vintage Modern

Yeah, I know. I saw it last Thursday night and thought "man, that's a great price" and kind of left it at that.

The next day driving home from work it just popped into my head "damn, I WANT that amp" and kind of raced the rest of the way home to get online hoping no one had nabbed it. Called 'em up, talked to a great sales guy and bought it over the phone. And shipping was a measly $12.50.

The one that's $1099 at the Tacoma store has been on there for a while. I kept waiting for them to drop the price on it.

The Vintage Modern 2266C was firmly on my radar before I bought my JTM45 Reissue...fabulously simple, yet very flexible amps.

HNAD to you Sir !

I have a very soft spot for the 50W VintageModern.

Great score, congratulations!

I want a Vintage Modern! I've seen a few used ones go on eBay for bargain prices. It's only matter of time :naughty:

Marshalls best release in years IMHO. Great amps. Congrats.

Love it, especially the purple tolex. I've always wanted to build a stack with the Vintage Modern and a Rockerverb 50 2x12 combos, and set them next to (or on top of) a green 4x12 :smokin:
