aaand...ready to ROCK!

I jammed on it (cranked :D) for a couple of hours...sounds KILLER! I wondered what the Deathbucker would sound like in mahogany (sounds NUTS in alder) well, I was'nt disappointed..it's a meaty fire-breathing monster heheh!

The Rose pups balance ok ..the middle drops in volume a bit 'cause the Deathbucker is f'n loud haha. I could raise it a bit I guess..but I like the way it sounds now so maybe not... as for the neck ..it sings really sweet! I wanted a stratty tone & they deliver that in spades..

Re: Out with the old ...in with The new.

Did you wire the Deathbucker with the split option?

Re: Out with the old ...in with The new.

Just an auto-split in position 2 on the switch...not crazy about it though (it's pretty dark with some treble cancelled out. Probably some sort of mis-match in frequencies between the middle single and the deathbucker's north coil). They're in phase though...

My Dinky has a switch that split's the Deathbucker and frankly I think that's a way better option. It sounds awesome split...very bell-like & single coil-ish (NO volume drop at all too..) and position 2 sounds great as well (whole deathbucker + middle pup)

Re: Out with the old ...in with The new.

I've thought about trying a Lace Hemi neck pickup- the idea of splitting without any volume drop is very appealing.

Re: Out with the old ...in with The new.

There really is no drop AT ALL man...it's as loud as the full 'bucker ...pretty awesome if you ask me. They're awesome pups. I think the fact that they look 'unconventional' is why they are'nt in every second guitar out there lol. I mean, people go on about the Fishman Fluence and it's little chip-board/battery being unconventional, but the Alumitones are what I'd call really revolutionary. Not to mention they blow the Fluence 'buckers out of the water tone-wise haha! I jammed an LP with the "modern" one's in it the other day at practice...very underwhelming.

Actually I think I might be splitting the far (outer) coil in position two (why it sounds like ass..) maybe I should try fixing that. I could flip it around...but would that mess with the phase or something?

Re: Out with the old ...in with The new.

Flipped it around...everything sounds fine now...nicely balanced across the board! Though I've lowered the Alumitone more than I normally would (...they're like EMG's in that they're recomemnded to be raised up close against the strings...unlike EMG's, they don't sound compressed there though...still very warm/crunchy/open). Anyway, lowering it gives it a sweet, warm, fat, punchy vintage-y vibe that gels really well with the singles..it's still nice & growly too :D.

Wow, I already love this guitar! Sings, sustains forever & sounds super sweet :)

Re: Out with the old ...in with The new.

Which Roses? I have some custom wound singles, that sound awesome... Hot but still chimey/Strat-like and clear. I really want to get some Lace in my life...

Re: Out with the old ...in with The new.

They're non-staggered Buff Beauty's..great for heavier/more rocking tones :)

I love the Alumitone Deathbuckers and those Dirty Heshers sound amazing too..
