Does the loop put the effects between the pre-amp and power amp?

Yes.

I tend to think of the preamp as a fancy distortion pedal. Everything I would normally put infront of a distortion pedal, I put in front of the amp. Everything I would normally put after a distortion pedal, I put in the loop.

Pretty much everything has been said but fuzz simulates broken speakers that buzz(or fuzz :smack: ).

I once heard that the first guy to do proper fuzzed/distorted guitar did it by punching holes in his amp speaker with a pencil.... forget his name, and cant vouch for the story's validity, but it makes a good rock n roll tale!
