overdrive pedals for pedal board

im trying to nail down my big pedal board. i seldom use it because its so big but feel the need to overhaul the od part of it.

signal path is

barber ltd-> dual loop pedal-> sd pup booster to amp

in loop 2 there is a duncan shape shifter trem, duncan deja vu delay and h&k rotosphere for swirlys

in loop 1 the only thing im keeping is the boss oc2 but i want two dirt pedals

i need a fat warm warren haynes type dirty sound and a good classic marshall crunch. what ya got for suggestions? im going to try to get out and check out some pedals this coming weekend but wanted some input as to what to try.

Re: overdrive pedals for pedal board

One of the many SLO voiced pedals might get you close to the Warren Haynes tones...he's used a Soldano for years now.

Marshall crunch? Box of Rock.

You shouldn't have sold me the Barber SS.

The Crunch Box is good with the gain a little lower, Jeremy...kind of Plexi sounding.

Re: overdrive pedals for pedal board

i worked with the barber trying to get the warren thing and it never quite did it good enough. ive been thinking about the crunch box or a jetter red shift. anyone know tried the red shift? i tried a gsp a while ago and really liked it.

ive also toyed with the idea of an eq for the warren tones

Re: overdrive pedals for pedal board

yeah. i have one of those. thanks for the useful input

Re: overdrive pedals for pedal board

Box of Rock or Distortron is going to be HARD to beat for old Marshall sounds...

Warrens tone(s) are a bit harder to nail down IMO...he uses a Diaz ranger (Rangemaster) almost all the time...stacking a good Rangemaster into a good mid gain dirt box can work for a Warren type tone just make sure the Rangemaster has a setting for a LOW boost...he never uses his in the normal treble position.

Maybe that Wampler SLO voiced pedal would be a good start but I have no experience with them...

Re: overdrive pedals for pedal board

I had the Red Shift for a while and regret trading it. Did the plexi/dumble thing very well. The BBpreamp does the Marshall thing pretty well too, not hi gain, but enough for my needs. Though, I really like the BB I find it may be a little too smooth for my current needs.

this passed Saturday I got to try a XTS Precision Overdrive and was blown away! Very amp like in tone and response. Its tube screamer based, but sounds nothing like one in my opinion.

Re: overdrive pedals for pedal board

Red Shift or Gain Stage Red would work!

I've liked the Dirty Little Secret for Marshall sounds the best.

Re: overdrive pedals for pedal board

Why wouldn't anyone NOT want some gigantic monster board with every pedal they own....

Re: overdrive pedals for pedal board

a friend of mine has two dls, ill try one out. never tried a bor thru my rig but that seems like a good option. kenny the guitar player for super 400 uses one and it sounds great but he also has a captain coconut that he leaves the fuzz on all the time.

on and this is no where near all the pedals i own :D

What kind of amp(s) are we talking about with yer rig J??

Re: overdrive pedals for pedal board

usually my 66 deluxe reverb but could be a 69 dual showman reverb thats been bf'd if i need that sort of volume for some reason

my tweeds dont get pedal board treatment

Re: overdrive pedals for pedal board

I would definitely recommended a Nick Greer Sweetback Driver after the OD. This will add significant girth to your tone. For the drive, perhaps a BB Preamp or Maxon OD820.

Re: overdrive pedals for pedal board

Bluesy and Plexi'ish pedals;

Mi Audio BluesPro DLx ( and BlueBoy) and Crunchbox
Hao Rustdriver
Boss Bd-2 Modified
Duncan lava Box
Wampler Black 65, Wampler Pexi Drive ( more expensive than the previous two)
Skreddy Screwdriver
Rockett Blue Note ,Rockett Animal ( also more expensive).
Hermida Zen Drive II.
Exotic AC Booster

I know you have the Tim, so you got the clean boost deal taken care of, other wise i'd say RC Booster too.

Re: overdrive pedals for pedal board

i have a mi blues pro and its a nice little pedal for what it is but its sorta in the middle of what i want. not crunchy/marshally enough and not voiced right for the warreny stuff.

the boss bd2 sucks, modded its better but still nothing i care for.

the rustdriver scares me a little since there is only one knob. id like to be able to control gain and volume seperately.

i have a lava box and it doesnt fit either of the things im looking for.
