Re: Overlooked tip for tone on foating Tems!!!

Ben you're gonna mail me your CD when my bro gets back to England, I've been listening to your two songs on the site and I can't get enough.

With all due respect to Davey, I wanted to point out that the guy that doesn't think EVH's brown sound is 'anything special' is playing through a Crate amp and Ibanez Smashbox,,, 2 key ingredients to great tone.... LMAO!
Uncalled for. Listen, just because everyone doesn't go blow their rent money on some PRS (eh hem) doesn't mean you can go and trash them. Especially when the only reason for you to do it in the first place is because he doesn't like your idol's tone. Get real.

Re: Overlooked tip for tone on foating Tems!!!

He made a snide remark about Davey's tone choice, which I believe was completely inappropriate. However, you made a snide remark about his tonal choices back at him, and to me thats just as bad, Guitarist. Correct me if what I'm saying is inappropriate too. What do you think?

Or how about everyone just drop it, and get back to the point of the thread.

Re: Overlooked tip for tone on foating Tems!!!

I use two springs in my Floyds, one floats and the other does not.
They have plenty of fatness.......so I guess it is up to how you play and how the guitar is.
As usual;)

I don't have self control. :)

Sorry, I just can't have for some new member coming in and totally putting down a good guy that's been here and is simply putting in his thoughts. It's bull****...and if it makes me come off as a prick, well I'm sorry, but I got to defend the good guy.

And just a side-note...I've no problem with PRS and certainly no problem with their tonal side, it's just that Crate S/S and PRS are somewhat on the opposite sides of the market. What I was really trying to say was that not everyone has the money to buy such quality gear - doesn't mean you have to poke fun at what a working guitarist's got. You know?

Re: Overlooked tip for tone on foating Tems!!!

Back to thread, I have a Washburn 600-S licensed Floyd blocked with a piece of wood between trem block and the body, and now I can change tunings, do bendings and whatever and my guitar stays in tune.
I played an Ibanez Rg the other day and it couldn´t stay in tune for more than 5 seconds...(it had the bridge set to float).
For me, blocking the trem increases the sustain, improves the tone and makes the guitar feel more "solid".

Just my 2-cents

Actually, I agree with you Guitarist... you have a very good point.

Re: Overlooked tip for tone on foating Tems!!!

Actually i am gonna try and do the block of wood thing next to the trem block as well and see what is up. Maybe that will work better than resting it on two small pieces of wood.

Like i said to the people that want to pull up on their bars. THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. hmmmm maybe they will get it now?

Sorry but i have to agree with the others that wrote that although satch and Vai are great players they have no reference to great tone.
you wanna hear Great tone???
Van Halen
Eric Johnson
Stevie Ray V.
Uli Roth
Michael Schenker
Gary Moore
Jeff Beck

Do you have any photos (or can you take some) of this little block-of-wood trick?

LOL who cares if thats a snide comment I think that's funny as ****!

Seriously... you have to remember that most kids today were raised in a super-high-gain, triple rectified world and something like EVH's tone might not exactly blow their minds the way it did back then. His playing yes but not his tone.

I'm weird though. I glommed onto VH1 like a leech when i heard that wonderful brown sound. But then again I understand good tone and know it when i hear it.
