Overseas tour - Not taking my amp , but using a JC120.. Questions

I've seen some stuff about the JC120.
Bascially my questions are:

1. IS IT ANY GOOD? ?
2. Can it switch between distortion and clean (from what I've read they have different inputs)?
3. Is there a global FX loop that will work for both channels?

Clean is okay at best and forget about distortion. The onboard distortion is terrible and the amp does not take to pedals very well. The only thing going for it is a nice chorus but any pedal can do that trick!

And wear a weight belt, don't want any back injuries humpin' that one around!

Daaaaaaaaaaamn.

So a SpinaModded SD-1 Won't be enough?

Re: Overseas tour - Not taking my amp , but using a JC120.. Questions

I play a very similar GA120 - basically a little PA that looks like an amp. Nice clean, will not colour your sound. But those little wheels will only roll so far, then it's time for the above-mentioned kidney-weight belt. Aluminium cones tho!!!

Seriously you should try one before you go. I had wanted one for years and when I finally got one I hated it.

Ahhhh ****.

Well it looks like im stuck with one anyway, its all we could get our hands on.

Do you recommend me taking 2 SD-1's rather than one?

An SD-1, even a modded one is mild gain at best...a JC-120 is one of the cleanest amps ever...I have a feeling if you tryed to do a show with a JC-120 and an SD-1 you will be very disappointed...

I'd try and grab something to warm it up. If I had to use one on tour, I'd grab a good two stage overdrive, like a G2D, Vox Cooltron or even a Mesa Vtwin (if that's the tone you're after). That way, you can set one channel to give a bit of grit and generally warm up the tone, and set another for high gain.

Even a pod might be a good idea...

Run maybe 8 MT-2's, then run them into a TS9. Peg all the knobs.

Might not be a bad idea to have one badass noise gate too! Not that 8 MT-2s would generate ANY noise EVER at all. (hahahaha /sarcasm)

Its a amp that will no where near suit your needs, you'd be better off with a crate practice amp and good PA.

Hope ya can find another option!

Re: Overseas tour - Not taking my amp , but using a JC120.. Questions

Unfortunately its all I got...

I could possibly obtain
a TS9
a DS1
and another SD1 for the trip, I'll see what I can do...

See if you can find out if there are any local (to the venue) shops that will rent out amps, you may be in luck.

If you're playing with bands of a similar style you may be able to use their equipment so phone them up in advance to try and sort that out.

I'm not sure how those amps are made, or if they are even tube. But "if applicable" you could run those pedals straight to the poweramp.

I don't know how stacking pedals would do actually, I was just making a joke. A single High-gain pedal would be ideal.

Have time to go test drive a marshall jackhammer? It makes my peavey classic sound like a pretty heavy marshall, when ran into the clean channel.

Re: Overseas tour - Not taking my amp , but using a JC120.. Questions

I believe that the JC120 is all tube.

The place we're hiring from, we have already paid for the gear. Unfortunately this is also the only hire company on the island.

We are the only band playing (headliner, no support).

I think I'll just try and take as many peds as possible and see what works...

Make sure to take some stupidly high gain pedal and a noise supressor.
You'll probably be OK as long as you do, just leave yourself some options incase something doesn't work out.

Redundancy FTW!

A JC120 does one thing...(clinical clean with chours) very well. Other than that you are SOL. Sorry.

Re: Overseas tour - Not taking my amp , but using a JC120.. Questions

hmm. Looks like im gonna have to hit up some of the local churches and see if they have an amp avaliable.

Re: Overseas tour - Not taking my amp , but using a JC120.. Questions

Heck...If anything, this will be a learning/adapt and over come experience. What ever happens, don't let 'em see you sweat!

Just remember, we are all tone hounds here. The folks in the audience might not know the difference or even care. Just play your best whatever happens and you'll do OK.

Good luck. Seems like you have a tremendous opportunity here. :burnout:
