sold to anywhere other than the US, a heck of allot sadly. $160 is the cheapest in the UK & that excludes an average of about $20 postage.

There's a company called GLS Audio making a direct copy of the 57, and it's called the ES57.

They sell for $29, and a crook could make some stickers and sell the bogus ones for the price of the real ones. Big difference in price.

Could this have been the case here?

nah...that ES-57 (if that's it in the picture) is OBVIOUSLY different from a real SM57. This copy is much closer. sorry you got burned bro, hope it all gets sorted out

Mine has the three holes, but nothing else is identical.

I bought a genuine sm57 from a shure.co.uk affiliate. The difference in quality is amazing - i'm so pleased with how it captures the sound of my amp. The visual differences are there too - the other was definately a fake.

I'm still pursuing my refund - i'm quite severely out of pocket right now & may have to sell something because of it.

I'l take some pictures later for comparison - pretty much everything you guys have mentioned has showed up.

2 holes, as per modern made ones.

routed / binding channel style part for the sticker & a metallic style sticker - exactly the same colour as the mic & not glossy.

Case candy - the instructions are glossy & have full colour, unlike the dull other one - also this contains the shure sticker at the top end.


I think that's about as much evidence as i'l ever need. Shure dont like displaying images comparing fakes in case it helps the counterfeiters in their process so i'l probably remove these after a few days in respect of that. I'm talking to another guy who bought an sm57 from the same seller & I want him to see this 1st.

Wow. Very interesting. I stopped using Ebay a few years ago because of rip off artists. Glad to see Ebay has worked hard to clean up their act. NOT!

dang, I knew there were fake guitars and such, but I don't know if I woulda caught the differences like you did on the mic. never know what people will pull.
