P-90 Phat Cats

Hello,

I am interested in the Phat Cat Humbucker Sized p-90's. My question is simple. Is this a true p-90 sounding pickup with a lower output than a humbucker. The reason I ask is that I currently play a guitar equipped with P-90's and love the sound. I want to add another "backup" guitar with a different playability. I dont want to have to totally change my amp/pedal setup at every guitar change. So I guess that is my question - Are these true p-90's? Or a humbucker with less gain/volume?

Thanks so much and happy holidays!

:)

These are a true P-90 fit under an HB cover. IMHO it's about as close to a P-90 tone as you will get without routing and installing a real one. It is based on the SD Vintage P-90 but with a slightly trimmed bobbin and an A2 magnet.

Re: P-90 Phat Cats

Thanks a lot.

I am looking into getting a SG Standard or Classic.

I love the p-90's in the Classic but I have had a Standard in the past and really dug it.

The block inlays are awesome too.

Thanks again,

Not a humbucker. The PC is not a "stacked-coil" design. 60-cycle hum is minimal (never understood why that's an issue with some players, but...) My set is very quiet...as quiet as some humbuckers. Wax-potting and the metal cover help in that regard.
Big single-coil that does the P90 thang very well. They respond well to knob twisting and clean up nicely. Audible output is certainly in the P90 range. Characteristic grind is there when you want it and the cleans are nice and chimey.

Re: P-90 Phat Cats

Yes... the Phat Cats ARE NOT a humbucking stacked coil design... they are just like "real" P-90's in a humbucker size.
BTW... THEY RULE!
