P-90 Suggestions?

I recently put a pair of SP90-1s in my Les Paul Deluxe.. they sound pretty sweet, but I think I'm looking for a little more low end and output out of the bridge pickup. I play riff-heavy boogie n' blooze rawk.

I have a Duncan Hot P90 in my LP Special and it sounds great - however I'd like to have something a little less "modern" sounding and maybe slightly less hot in the Deluxe. Would the Custom fit the bill? - it seems very similar to the Hot in the sound clips. Antiquites? Anyone have good experience P-90s from other brands other than SD?

Thanks!

Re: P-90 Suggestions?

i think the custom is a very cool bridge pup less upper mids and more bottom than the hot version. prs uses the custom neck in the bridge with a vintage neck in the neck on their p90 loaded axes.

the antiquitys are great but i dont think a bridge ant will match up well with the vintage neck. the vintage has a higher dc resistance and a stronger magnet so might over power the ant in the bridge. if you wanna swap out both then the ants are great but i might try the custom in the bridge first.

Hmm.. I guess the question would then be.. do I go for a Custom neck (for the bridge pos) or a regular Custom bridge?

Antiquities still interest me too. I love the sound of the Phat Cats.. seing as both the Cats and Ants are Alnico II, I imagine they'd be somewhat similar in tone..

Re: P-90 Suggestions?

Just ordered a Custom SP90-3 Bridge. Seems like it ought to do the trick of beefing up the bridge of the Les Paul but still sound like a P-90. The Vintage just seemed too bright and Strat-y sounding for the guitar. Which is weird, because Phat Cats and stock Gibsons never sound that way to me- of course they were in other guitars.. so that's a big factor. . I'll keep y'all posted on my results...
