P-90s with no tone pot?

I'm trying to decide how to wire my new Tele-type-thing.

The builder did not drill for a output jack, so I'm thinking of using one of the holes in control plate to house the jack. I'm wondering how a Duncan Custom P-90 would sound with only a volume pot in the circuit. I'm kind of thinking it may need some taming here and there.

What do you think?

My PRS Soapbar has no tone control-it came with one, but I prefer to have individual volumes- so I re-wired it with 2 vol. as a matter of fact- none of my guitars do -I unhook all of them, and use the volume pots and amp to get my tones. Never used a tone control anyway.

Might use a 250K pot instead of a 500K to tame it a bit. Could even try a 100K.

If you have excessive high end (a pretty good bet), a small cap (75 to 150 pF or to taste) wired in parallel from hot to ground will cool it down...

Hmmm... Are these last 2 posts in response to my thread "Antiquity P-90 review"? Looks like they are since you're talking about taming high end and this guy was asking bout wiring w/o a tone pot...

If he's referrring to 'taming' the kind of high end you get with a hot ceramic P90 with no tone pot loading, that little trick works well...

He was talking about taming the highs, so it would work for you too.

The thing I like about P-90's is that they are sort of inbetween fender single coils and Humbuckers. By using the tone control , you can get close to both sounds. :fest7:

I have used that pickup and it works best with a 250k Volume pot
