i think the stock prail sounds maybe more traditionally p90 like than the phat cat due to the a5 magnets. i love the phat cat but the a2 gives it a chewier character. you can always swap a5's in there but i like the a2, especially in the bridge.
I really like my tele with a hot tapped bridge and prails neck. I mag swapped the prails to have an A5 and A2 in there.
Prails is reversed so the rail is closer to the neck. Push pulls on volume and tone so I get:
Hard rock tele - vol and tone down - full bridge and series neck
p90 tele - vol down tone up - full bridge and p90 neck (use this most of the time)
Traditional tele - vol up tone down - tapped bridge and neck rail
"Paf" tele - vol up, tone up- tapped bridge and parallel neck
Wow, P-Rails seem to rule unconditionally!!!thanks to all for the thoughtful and crystal clear recommendations....so, anybody got a P-Rail neck for sale???
What's holding a Phat Cat together? I've done mag swaps on a P-Rail, which just has a couple of screws through the base plate, and I'd assumed Phat Cats to be similar, but that doesn't look to be the case at quick glance.
I would also say P-Rails. I seem to be one of the few around here that LOVES that pickup in the humbucking position. Here is my Strat with the P-Rails in the bridge, Bill Lawrence L-250 and a Pearly Gates in the neck .
