P-Rail orientation

The basic wiring information for the P-Rail shows the neck pickup with the P90 portion closest to the neck and the bridge pickup with the P90 portion closest to the bridge. I've got an HSH guitar and would frankly like it set up just the reverse, with the single coil rail pickups farthest apart. Aside from the "Seymour Duncan" logos being upside down in each case, are there any other problems with doing that?

Re: P-Rail orientation

I'd like to know the answer to this too; I'm resisting the urge to get a Reverend Gil Parris Signature just to put P-Rails in.

Re: P-Rail orientation

Problems no, just a matter of taste really...
It's probably that in a HH guitar when split to the two rails alone it resembles the typical strat 2/4 positions...

Re: P-Rail orientation

Yes much thought was given to this, and the Rails to the inside is the most likely orientation (likely 90%) and that is what the logos suggest. I'm pretty sure (but not positive) that you can order "reverse logo" versions as Shop Floor Customs if necessary. Our standard orientation yields the best "quack" from the Rails in an H/H guitar, and it pushes the P90's up against the fretboard and bridge, where they would be if the guitar were routed for P90's.

The P90's are nearly centered. That means if you flip the P-Rails, the P90 tone changes only slightly. But the Rails tone changes dramatically, and therefore the Humbucker tone changes too. On an H/S/H guitar I still like the Rails on the inside. They're close to the middle single, but they get a really great Strat quack when used with a middle single coil. I've got an H/S/S guitar with a P-Rails and I have it oriented the normal way. I also like the Bridge P90 combined with the middle single coil to simulate a "hot strat bridge/vintage middle combo.

Definitely don't be afraid to flip them around. I'll probably have one guitar H/S/H guitar loaded with flipped P-Rails.

Now, a Tele with a neck humbucker is a GREAT place to flip the P-Rails. The Rail coil will be up against the fretboard like a Tele neck pickup.

Re: P-Rail orientation

^ Hmm, that's an idea as well, if most SDs can be had without logos as SFCs I don't see why these couldn't as well...

Re: P-Rail orientation

How close does it sound to the tele? From what I've read here it seems like there is some comparaison to be made. I've actually been thinking of that, a tele with a p-rails in the neck...

Re: P-Rail orientation

At this point I believe they can be ordered Shop Floor Custom without logo, or with reversed logo. But don't quote me on this yet.
