P-rails hot wiring help!!!

Hello everyone,
I purchased a p-rails hot some years ago to put in a single humbucker guitar with a single 1 vol, 1 tone control (no toggle). I know nothing of wiring but have all the parts (push/pull pots, capacitor, jack) to do the job and some soldering skill. I can't find a diagram that shows this and I can't just look at a different diagram and negate switches and pots. How the hell do I and can I wire the p-rails to a 1 vol and 1tone setup and have the 3 possible pickup selections (rails,p-90 and both)? Thanks for helping.

Re: P-rails hot wiring help!!!

Welcome to the forum.

The two coils of a P-Rails can be connected in four ways. Each coil singly or both connected in either series or in parallel. There is also the possibility of phase reversal.

One option for wiring is a Triple Shot mounting surround. This features two micro switches to control the coils. The second option is to adapt the SD schematic diagram for 2 P-Rails, 3-way selector, push-pull Master Volume and Master Tone pots. Eliminate the second pickup and selector switch. The push-pull connections remain the same.

With pull/pushes, you will need two of them to get those sounds (and one more, coils in parallel).

The basic switching possibilities are here:

Then, you can wire the hot to the volume + tone pots, in a regular way.

Wow,thanks

Re: P-rails hot wiring help!!!

Guys, First I want to say thank you so much. I really appreciate all the help and expertise. Hermetico, you ARE a mastermind. I have a 2 push pulls so this is perfect, and it seems like I can get all the tonal options!! Just to make sure, the black line with the arrow is the capacitor and the turqoise line with the "hot" is the ground? Also, the 5 lines (black, red, grey, green and turqoise) coming from the pickups are already built into the wiring? Sorry, have to make sure.

NOPE!
The inverted triangle means GROUND.
You should put all your grounds together (bridge ground, shielding ground, jack ground, etc, etc, etc).
I guess for turquoise you mean that light blue wire from the pickups, this corresponds to Seymour Duncan's white wire but, represented here in light blue for contrasting it against the white background.

Hermetico....

Wow, you are a mastermind!

Not really, Doc!.
This is a design of the real Wiring Wizard: Mr. ArtieToo, that enhances the proposal of Frank Falbo.
Just sharing the info here but, this time, I am not the father of this nice child.

Thanks man, the light blue I was referring to was the one coming off the second pot that says "hot" that must be the input right? Also the capacitor would go from the top of the second pot (the one I referred to earlier) the tone pot to where? I will be doing this in a few days and don't want to electrocute myself haha. Thanks again

Let see if looks like easier now!

Hey hermetico (and everybody else), how are you?

If I wanted to modify this schematic with a "50's wiring" mod, what would I have to do? Connect the capacitor from TS1 to VS2?

I have a tele wired in this style, and I really like it. Would it work equally well with this setup? Would it have any negative effects?

I'm working on this setup for an SG Junior, by the way.

Thanks in advance,

R.

Try posting this in its own thread for more people to answer. Lots won't open a 4 year old thread.
