I have P-Rails N and P-Rails Hot in a PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow. Mounted via Triple Shot surrounds, the P-Rails offer a broader range of tones than either generation of the Tele Thinline or, for that matter, the Jim Adkins model.
One thing that the P-Rails cannot be expected to exactly reproduce is the bite of the traditional Tele single coil bridge position pickup, mounted via the vintage-style, stamped steel bridge.

I've got a more traditional tele for the more traditional sound. Wherever I end up putting a set of P-Rails, that guitar will be used for anything that needs an HB or P90 sound; I don't think I'll use the single setting too much because I love my more traditional tele so much. Currently, it's down to modding my current strat, or picking up a new MIM or Squier VM or CV tele or strat specifically for this purpose.
This is all many months down the road, I just realized I hadn't read anything about the P-Rails in ash. I've seen good reports about Alder and Mahogany, but not much else.

I'm also a real advocate of mounting the bridge P-Rail with the Rail coil next to the bridge (P-90 coil toward the neck). Because it will be a little weaker in that position, the Rail benefits from having an A8 magnet. Sounds pretty Teleish, but not exactly like a true Tele with bridge-plate monted pup.
