P-rails in parallel?

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of P-rails w/ Triple Shots. Going in a Dot Studio with a standard 3 way switch, and two vol/tone knobs (concentric).

I really liked what guys said about the parallel tone being way more PAF-ish than the uber series sound.

How does one get the parallel tone out of P-rails? I think I'd still like the hot series sound available also.

Re: P-rails in parallel?

You should be able to get it with the triple shot. I think it's wired when both switches are pushed outwards.

Re: P-rails in parallel?

if you have triple shots, you have series/parallel/rail/p90 all available to you

Re: P-rails in parallel?

I looked close - so there are TWO little switches....I see what they did there.

Wire one of the Triple Shots backwards so that the switching options on both are identical. I can't remember which one I reversed, but on mine both switches toward the inside is series, both toward the outside is parallel, and both switches moved away from a coil activate that coil.

Re: P-rails in parallel?

Thank you Dystrust - that is indeed how the switches work!

4 options!!!!!! Very exciting. Probably leave this guitar on that, or P90 most of the time.

Re: P-rails in parallel?

i have a set of prails w/ triple shots that ive had in a prs for a few years now. gonna sell them when i pop them out but i used the p90 tones the most by far

Re: P-rails in parallel?

Both switches has two positions. Yes you have the four possibilities.
(And sometimes I forgot which one is parallel and which on is series...)
In live situation you will more feel the Triple Shot position with the fingers than with the eyes I would say.

Re: P-rails in parallel?

Does the product description for the Triple Shots not explain this? The whole point of the things is that you can get either coil alone, or both in parallel, or both in series, without using external switches, still hooking up to the wiring harness as if you were just installing a pickup. Why did you even decide to buy the Triple Shots if you did not already know this?

I know it can do it. I just wanted the particulars of how it did it. User interface wise.

Re: P-rails in parallel?

In is series
out is parallel
up is one coil
down is the other

Easy enough. Really looking forward to this! Like I said - likely gonna use parallel or P90 mostly.

Next up - concentric 500k pots, and a little paint!

Re: P-rails in parallel?

I didn't like the series sound in one of my les pauls BUT the series sounds killer in my old MIJ HH contemporary tele, better than the JB or custom that they replaced like perfect......that guitar has a stock TBX tone that I usually keep cranked though. I'm interested to hear your thoughts afterwards, I'm debating putting them in an Ibby as-93 I have. I have a dot with gold covered dimarzio VHpaf and Vpaf's with triple shots they really give some great variations in tone.

Re: P-rails in parallel?

I use my P-Rails (both neck models) without Triple Shots, set for series and P-90, using 1M pots. Using the neck model in the bridge position gives a clearer series sound. If I had the bridge model, I'd probably set it up for parallel and P-90. Of course, you don't need to prioritize when you have the Triple Shots; you have all options. I hope to switch over to using them some day.

Since I haven't whored it out in this thread yet, here's my SG with P-Rails & Triple Shots.

I use all of the settings, but probably end up using parallel the most. The only ones I don't use all that often are neck in series because it's so loud and fat, and bridge rail because it's a bit bright and thin.
