Hi
i have a Fat Strat an want to change the humbucker with an SHPR-1.

How can i wire that so that i can choose all the sounds the SHPR-1 have.

i think i need a 3 way mini toggle switch to choose the sounds from the SHPR-1.

How can i connect this switch to the SHPR-1 and to the existing 5 way switch?

At the moment the fat strat has (Humbucker , Singlecoil, Singlecoil, 5-way switch, 1 Volume and 1 Tone )

greetings merlin123

Re: P-Rails SHPR-1 Fat Strat how to wire

:newbie: I cannot find anywhere on the web how to connect my new SHPR-1 to my Fat strat which has 2 tones and all the rest as above, namely:
- 1 volume
- a 5-way selector
- 2 single coils (middle + neck)
- two push/pull pots

with two tone pots, it is complicated :banghead: to understand which wire goes where... it's very confusing really.
I would really appreciate your help :help:

Thank you
Eric

Eric,

Welcome aboard! The image and link (image is a link, if you didn't catch that) above refer to the Seymour Duncan Triple Shot ring. In my opinion, it is the best possible companion for a P-Rails pickup. I was / am in a similar situation as you, wondering how to make the wiring work for my P-Rails with push-pulls and mini-toggles, but after I found the Triple Shot ring, all of that seemed unnecessary. What it does is
allows you to access series, parallel and split wirings with a standard humbucker. And it’s easy to install. Just solder your pickup leads to a small color-coded circuit board. That’s it. Push the two switches towards each other for standard series wiring; away from each other for parallel wiring; and both towards one coil (either one) to shut that coil off.

In a P-Rails, that means you can get rail coil, P90 coil, series humbucker, and parallel humbucker switching, all in a very stealthy pickup ring, without having to fiddle with push pulls or mini-toggles.

I know you mentioned you already have the push-pulls, but it's my honest opinion to just leave them alone and get a Triple Shot ring.

That is, if you want to put a pickup ring on your Strat pickguard.

You can get the ring at Wymore Guitars, an online store run by one of our very own forum bros (where I have received above-and-beyond service) for $27.95, and John (of Wymore Guitars) even has a coupon code (sdforum) for SDUGF members that knocks some of the price off.

Thank you for pointing out this product.

In my opinion, it is the best possible companion for a P-Rails pickup.
However Guitar is a passion for all of us, my interrest going into making the wiring myself, otherwise I just drop my guitar to a technician!

I am actually interrested in the wiring diagrams of the P-Rail for a genuine Fat-Strat.

Thanks anyway!

Originally the (at least my) fat strat is wired in auto split mode.
When using push/pull to select manually which coil(s), there is no need for an autosplit mode.
As a result to install a SHRP-1 into an strat, use the basic wiring diagram + push-pulls for the SHRP-1

Re: P-Rails SHPR-1 Fat Strat how to wire

The one that came to my head was, 4-way blade switch (like on some teles) for the bridge pickup, and three push-pulls wired as on/off switches. It might not be your best option, but it's AN option.
