Greetings,, I recently picked up a used J'master, & it's so out of character for me that I don't know good pups from better... The guitar feels great, lots of charm, & that lovely whammy, but I'm not sure where the pups sit in the line of Fender pups,,, Also, I'd wager that my particular guitar is right Vintage line with the run of J Mascis', going by the CGS prefix I see also on most all of his signature models...
I want to keep that JM charm, so I don't want to mess with P90's, hot Duncan or Fender replacements,, BUT I am interested in hearing more about the J Mascis pups that came stock in his signature model & if they're anything unique or special about them. My 1st thoughts about 'vintage' usually leads me to SD's Antiquities, but I done want to spend unnecessarily. I just want to hook into what an old JM might sound like, & not get all crazy over being hot & beefy....
Thanks in advance~
