P/U's For My Fender Jazzmaster Re-issue??

Greetings,, I recently picked up a used J'master, & it's so out of character for me that I don't know good pups from better... The guitar feels great, lots of charm, & that lovely whammy, but I'm not sure where the pups sit in the line of Fender pups,,, Also, I'd wager that my particular guitar is right Vintage line with the run of J Mascis', going by the CGS prefix I see also on most all of his signature models...

I want to keep that JM charm, so I don't want to mess with P90's, hot Duncan or Fender replacements,, BUT I am interested in hearing more about the J Mascis pups that came stock in his signature model & if they're anything unique or special about them. My 1st thoughts about 'vintage' usually leads me to SD's Antiquities, but I done want to spend unnecessarily. I just want to hook into what an old JM might sound like, & not get all crazy over being hot & beefy....

Thanks in advance~

The Vintage Jazzmaster isn't far off from the Antiquities, and I don't think they are as expensive. But my question- what don't you like about the current pickups?

There's nothing about them I don't like, but I don't have any point of reference, & no matter how much I love them, being a 2019 relatively inexpensive guitar, what other pups may be true throwbacks to the vintage J'master glory,,,?
thnx

Generally the Ants are not for everyone. The treated mags tend to be softer and less cutting e.g. in the band mix. A lot of people do have problems with that and tend to swap them out again.
My Ant buckers have various magnets, though the original mag sounds glorious in the neck. My Ant P90 bridge now has mismatched mags to get more Ballz.

Go for a SJM-1 set, and don't fret about it anymore. They are an awesome, inexpensive way of getting classic JM tones.

I thought that the J Mascis jazzmaster pickups were constructed much more like a traditional P90 than vintage Jazzmaster pickups. Causes a very different sound to be produced.

If you think the guitar sounds okay as is, but want to make an adjustment to take it over the edge, the best improvement you can make is in your fingers.

Man, this guy is a marketer's dream. No idea what he wants or what is good but has got cash to burn......

Well, many people want to tinker with things to make them 'more better', but it ends up mostly being a sideways step. I always try to remind myself not to bother 'upgrading' if there is nothing wrong.

Much agreed, MINCER,,, While I have you, just got 2 out of my 3 STK-S's, & found the highest DC K between the Black & Bare tied off, & the White lead... other 6k readings came up w/different lead combos, but I would think my 9k results is what we want.... Unlike my Little59 & 78's where red & white are tied off to hang, & the others go +/- respectively. But what to do on these non-hummers... What goes where for a non-splitting guard? Many thnx, again!!
