P90 Fans ?

I have been playing guitars since 1972, until recently I had never even tried P90's. I recently received a Groove Master by MJ Guitar Engineering, loaded with Duncan P90's "Hot" (Bridge) and "Vintage" (Neck).
Man, Duncan P90's R O C K !!!! The MJ Groove Master is handcrafted excellence too !!! The tone is single coil glassy and articulate, with humbucker-like output. None of the feedback I had been told about ! They are AMAZING !!!! Straight into the amp I can get Jazz clean, dial 'em up and its Billy Gibbons all over the place !!!
Any other P90 fans out here ? If you haven't tried them, I suggest you do (Don't wait as long as I did !) :headbang:

I think there are many on this forum, and even more on the HCGF !

I am a BIG fan of the humble, yet rude sounding vintage correct P90s.

40 years without ever trying P90's! Glad you have finally tried them. They are outstanding pickups.

I was a late bloomer with P-90's too. But to me, the magic happened when I started swapping magnets in them (each has 2 magnets and you can mix and match them). Then I could dial in anything I wanted.

I love them. I've been playing one of my SG Juniors for the past week now. It sounds great. At the moment my guitars with P-90's are two SG Juniors, an Explorer with Phat Cats, and a LP Special should be arriving here today. I play heavy rock and they sound great with what I do.

I have 2 guitars with P-90's... an SG Classic and a kit SG Jr from Precision Guitar Kits. The Classic has the stock Gibson P-90's. The SG Jr. has a custom wound tapped Lollar. I love how both of them sound. I play a lot of hard rock and classic metal. They work great for me, better than I thought.

I'm really enjoying the P-90 sound from my P-rails. Got the growl of a humbucker with the shimmer of a single coil.

It's my first P-90, but I think I'm liking it. Particularly for the gritty stuff.

Fatter than the fattest strat pickup, cut's like no humbucker can!

Just P90 goodness!

Everybody wants a guitar with P90's, they just don't know it.


I run a Vintage/Custom combo in my LP Studio Gem.

Welcome to the P-90 club.

I love P-90's. I too only started playing them about three years ago. I've got Gibson's, GFS Mean 90's, and SD P-Rails. My favorite is the P-90 in the P-Rails. It is so mean and nasty, full and rich with a nice bright sparkle to it. I'm not sure, but I think I ended up with an A5 next to the P-90 and an A8 next to the rail. I've got it mounted in a TripleShot with the rail toward the bridge. The tone is so awesome, I have to really force myself to put my guitar down, and it hurts to do so.

I'm interested in the Mean 90, I'd like to put in on a mahogany body, in what guitar do you use it? Could you compare it with a real p90 and how's different?

I've got it in a LP (mahogany body and neck, maple cap, rosewood fretboard).

It IS a "real P-90". But if you mean to compare it to a Gibson P-90, I'd say it is fuller/richer/warmer sounding. Very thick and gooey and awesome with some snarl and bite typical to P-90's. I actually like it better than Gibson P-90's.

I've also got it in the middle position of an SG Custom (solid mahogany, no maple cap). I think it's too warm there and the Gibson P-90 would be a better choice there.

The P-90 in the SD P-Rails is also a marvelous P-90.

Go for it. The Mean 90 is a great sounding pup at a great price.

After you get it and try it out, get back to us and let us know what you think of it.
