P90 Guitar Suggestions

I am thinking of building a Warmoth guitar specifically to house a pair of P90's.
I was wondering do you think a Tele body style would suit the sound and mojo of the P90's? Or should I just go with a LP or Double Cut shape?
Any and all advice will be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: P90 Guitar Suggestions

Shapewise, tele would be fine. My recommendation would be to use all mahogany/rosewood, and a 24.75 conversion neck. It will look like a tele, but sound more Gibson.

Re: P90 Guitar Suggestions

I would recommend mahogany or ash. I've got and ash Axis w/P-90s and it sounds really nice- good top end, bassy lows, the P-90s also add snarly mids usually lacking in ash. Mahogany would be the first choice for me though.

I'm building 2 p-90 loaded guitars right now
one Double cutaway with limba back and maple top (for "Fatty")
and a Single Cutaway (all mahogany) for ("Mr. FJones")

I'm sure they'll let you know the sonic differences and you an watch the progress at my new website - once I get all the wood in

cheers

Re: P90 Guitar Suggestions

My vote is definitely a Tele, especially a semi-hollow Tele with an F hole. As the Warmoth and USA Custom guitars are bolt-on, you won't get a true Gibson vibe with their body styles. If it were me, I'd put a Bigsby on there, too. Tele + P-90s = Very Cool :)

Re: P90 Guitar Suggestions

I vote for TC's idea... that sounds like an awesome guitar! Though it won't sound pure gibson because of the neck joint.

Re: P90 Guitar Suggestions

I once played a killer fender CS p90 tele that was a mahogany chambered body, mahogany neck, and gibson scale. I'd recommend something like that.

I'm seriously looking at a p90 guitar. I'm thinking either PRS McCarty soapbar or Gibson R6. The wallet is gonna hurt...

Thanks guys,
I'm aware that a Tele won't sound like a Gibson but as long as I get the "Flavor" of what the P90's bring to the table I'll be happy. That said, I think I will go with a Mahogany Tele Body.
Rock Rock ON!!!
Thanks,

It's hard to make P90s sound bad. I think the suggestions you have here are all pretty good.
