P90 lover needs help picking humbucker

THE DUG

New member
Hey All
Need some assistance choosing a HB for a LP that has Seth's in it now. The Seth's seem to have a bit of top end sheen that I can't dial out.
It's been a long time since I had a HB guitar hence the needed assistance.
I use some gain and play old Marshalls with green back cabs.
I don't need clean tones.
I do need clarity and nice chunky mids.
I would like to stay with HBs in this guitar to have some variety in my guitars.
here's a vid of what I'm going for, this LP has Wolftone Mean/meaner set in it
Skip to about 20seconds in to skip the banter.

Any help is much appreciated

Thought of Marshallheads from Wolfetone? They are not p90s, but they have great clarity and are mean.

Yep, talk to Wolfe and say you want a HB set along the lines of the mean/meaner. I'd say the Marshallhead/legend combo would probably do it.

For me, the only humbucker that comes close to the growl and midrange of a p90 is a tv classic plus filtertron!

Dimarzio do the Bluesbucker that should sound like p-90, as some people say!

Re: P90 lover needs help picking humbucker

I have the Bluesbucker in my main guitar (bridge position), and I think I can review it now after a week.

I had it mounted with the screw coils facing the bridge.

I tried it in both series and parallel. Series wasn't too different from the Pearly Gates I took out before, but more low end. Then I wired it in parallel. Bingo. That takes me enough into P90 territory with hum-cancelling to satisfy me. It is very bright and cutting in the parallel/screws facing bridge setup, but if you have the screws facing the neck, the pickup is very noticeably warmer/fuller/louder. I'm satisfied enough with the brighter setup, because it really brings out screaming harmonic overtones for leads, it has the most sustain I've achieved from any other pickup, and it is very much like a raunchy/pissed-off single coil for rhythms. The output in parallel isn't too high either, and the cleans are good. I think it'll stay in there a while.

I haven't tried filtertrons yet, I'll have to check them out.

Just sent him an email, was looking at the Marshallhead's , seem like those might work.

Thanks all!
