P90/Phat Cats in an SG Standard?

Anyone try this? I'm tempted to pop 'em in there thinking I'm going to get some real nice clean tones, better than anything I could muster up with humbuckers in the Standard.

Do it- Had both PAF and P90 SGs up to early 80's- Have no clue why I let the p90s go other than noise (oh yeah that was why

Two very different, but extremely usable sounds (if you can work around p90 noise)

The bridge Phat Cat is great -- but at 8.0k I think the neck Phat Cat is overwound. Had a neck one, sent it to MJ for a rewind at 7.0k and now it's just marvelous in my LP.

I think that the standard neck PC wil work great in an SG. remember, an SG and a LP are built very differently. Having a thin body and a double cutaway will give plenty of sparkle to even the standard 8K PC at the neck.

I'm really starting to dig this idea. Do you think that those Leslie West/Thorogood tones are obtainable with the SG/Phat Cat combination? And is there any tonality difference btw the Phat Cat and the vintage p-90s from Gibson or Seymour?

Vintage Vibe Guitars does a humbucker-sized P-90 that's hand-wound to your specs for a great price. I have a set in my Les Paul Custom and they're just smokin'!

Best hundred bucks on a set of pickups I've ever spent!

Ah, but you forget that the LP has a maple top (brighter) while the SG is all-mahogany (fatter), so it's a wash at best. A pickup's resonant peak doesn't change when you put it in a different guitar, only the emphasis (or de-emphasis) on the peak.

I really think you'll find it a little muddy, but you've got nothing to lose by trying one out and you may decide I'm all wet and that it sounds great as is. Besides, if your ears do decide they agree with mine, then you can always open it up and unwind it by about 1,100 turns.

Try a LP DC, you'll know what I mean.
