P90 STK wiring question

Howdy all,

I have an Epiphone LP Jr. with a single bridge P90 STK. I have 1 volume and 1 tone with no switches. I have a spare push/pull pot here and would like to try series/parallel switching with this pickup. I’m decent at soldering but very noobish where guitar wiring is concerned. I’ve done my best searching through the diagrams but can not seem to find one with my specific configuration. Would some kind soul out there care to post me up a diagram for this. Just a simple drawing would do, nothing fancy needed. Thank you very much in advance. Rock on!

Re: P90 STK wiring question

Welcome to the forum.

Very cool with the P90 stack pickup, luckily this was a quick drawing for me to do using the old Seymour Duncan diagram style. I made my own pretty much sticker collection of all the pots and all so these diagrams take minutes to make.

This will do the trick. This is the easiest way to do series / parallel wiring and of course the push pull you can wire to either guitar pot. Just change what is on the bottom where the 3 main contacts are if that makes sense. The only way to add onto this is the 1950s wiring technique for the tone control which some people love others don't. But this is a great starting point. One place I recommend starting to get a lot of cool guitar wiring ideas aside from youtube I picked up a lot of tricks from premier guitar website. Mod garage articles they do.

Re: P90 STK wiring question

Hey Shadowfire90, thank you so much for posting this. Highly appreciated! It will probably be a few days before I get to it. The tip on my cheapie soldering iron is beyond wasted. I haven’t used it in quite a while and never took good care of it anyway. But I’ll post back when it’s done. I have another question if you happen to see this reply...have you messed with this pickup before? I was wondering what happens if you sort of make it a single coil by disabling the bottom half. Does the bottom coil then make the normal P90 buzz even worse than if you had a traditional P90 or? I was just wondering if that’s even desirable with this pickup. Maybe adding a toggle switch or something to do that when wanted. You don’t have to bother with another diagram or anything I’m just curious to know. Thx again!
