yup - no reason why not ... just make sure that you keep the phase correct .. if they sound thin and weak, they're out of phase ... let us know how they sound that way ...

good luck

You'd probably benefit from a RWRP set of P90's to keep the hum down to a dull roar when combined in series.

I believe this would do it:

I did that on my Tele copy. I had to rewire the leads on the bridge pickup so I could seperate the inside coil lead from the ground.

I also have a phase switch. I like it when it's out of phase in series, with the tone rolled down. I use this guitar for slide, sounds very honky, kind of dobro like.

thanks for the replies guys. artie, i will get back to you on the schematic. bob, can you share how your p90s sound in series?

cheers!

Sure. There's a big volume gain and the sound is fat and a little bassy. Distorted they sound like a Big Muff.

Anyway, with the 4-way switch and the phase switch, it's got 6 sounds, which is fun.

Re: p90s: can they be wired to a 4-way switch like a tele?

does it sound remotely close to a humbucker?

No, the distance between the coils prevents this, it doesn't have the focus of a humbucker. It sounds similar to the series configuration, only louder and bassier. I don't know the physics of the frequency response, but the notch is probably move up higher, and the boost is moved lower. It reminds me of the sound of the middle position strat pickup, but hotter. Kind of like a baritone guitar. Does that help?

thanks bbb! as long as it sounds thicker than the usual p90. thinking of using it for leads. i am sure it will work out fine.
