P90's or mini humbuckers in a tele build?

I'm toying with putting a tele together (warmoth or similar). Probably a mahogany body, maple neck, ebony board.
I already have a tele with phat cat neck & tele s/c bridge, 335 & LP with humbuckers, 3x sc strat, & a gretsch with tv jones filtertons.

I'm thinking the new build will have mini humbuckers or P90's, I'm into Stones & Zep type tones and the new guitar will spend most of it's time in open D, G, and DADGAD.

Which do you think I should go for?

I put together one with a similar setup (mahogany body, maple & rosewood neck) and went with 2 P-90s with the 4way Tele switching. Built it for a friend, and he loves it. Sounds ginormous with the P-90s in series.

I'm gathering parts for an ash body, maple/maple neck, where I'll use minis. Don't wait on me for letting you know how it comes out, there are a lot of other projects in front of it. I think a mahogany Tele with minihumbuckers would approach Firebird territory (not that that's a *bad* thing, mind you...)

Either way, go for it..

That's a tough one since both P-90 and mini are gorgeous sounding pups in mahogany. P-90 with a bit more punch, mini with sparkle.

I had a tele (mahogany body with rosewood on maple neck) with P-90 bridge and Firebird mini neck. I called it my hotrod tele and visually it also maintained black bridge pu and chrome neck pu look. I like that combo a lot so after a friend bought that guitar I built an offset with exact combo.

Mini-HB's! Great tones without noise. Mini-HB's in the neck slot are wonderful.

The lower power minis sound stellar in the neck of a tele.

Am I right in thinking if I get the body routed for P90's there are mounting rings for mini HB's that will fit that rout footprint perfectly?

Exactly. I bought a pretty nice ash Tele body from a builder in Canada (haven't checked all the dimensions yet, but looked right), that was routed for two P90s... I'm planning on putting in two of those rings and minis, and a maple/rosewood neck.
