PA-STK1n Parallel Axis (series and parallel wiring)

SD site says PA-STK1n Parallel Axis is 6,8k of resistance. It comes with a 4-conductor cable, so I realize that resistance is for a parallel wiring (aiming at a more single-coiled sound). So, my question is what would be the resistance and output for a series wiring. Would it be a fatter humbecker sound and output?

Well I understood this is like a single-coil sized HB (not a HB per say, but two coils in a parallel axis configuration). Is that right?

Thanks,

Re: PA-STK1n Parallel Axis (series and parallel wiring)

Well if the resitance is really for parallel wiring the the in-series resistance would be four times that so 27.2k. It's quite high but not unreasonably high. Many bridge position stacks are somewhere there resistance wise but this PA-STK1n is designed to middle/neck position so I might be wrong. When wired in series the output is slightly higher and a little beefier but nothing too dramatic.

I don't usually call these stacks humbuckers. Yes, they have two coils and they are hum-bucking but since the coils are on top of each other (stacked) so it's very different. These aren't so different from normal stacks these just have the parallel axis polepieces. Of course they are probably wound differently but again nothing too dramatic.

Im pretty sure the output resistance is 6.8K total, usually when they are listed per coil they have an asterisk next to them, and are listed as each coil, not parallel.

Its a stacked single coil so it will sound pretty open even in series, not like a humbucker, just a fatter single coil.

Re: PA-STK1n Parallel Axis (series and parallel wiring)

Hi there,

Yeah 6.8k is in total! I've wired it in series/parallel on my Robin Medley Standard IV as a neck pickup and when I split it in parallel the output is really mild (not that much higher in series though).

I kinda like it but the difference in output is too evident when splitting from bridge (PA distortion) to neck (even if I've positioned this one pretty close to the strings to compensate somehow for the lack of output).

Now I'm gonna fit a PA distortion to one of my Strat HM and was thinking to get 2 PA singles for the neck and middle positions too (even if I'm tempted to get something with little bit more of power lol)
