Looking to trade a PAF PRO for either an EMG 81, EMG 81X or a Bill Lawrence 500XL...
Just some background info here: I'm running through an old JCM 800 single channel and the pickup is in an old, all maple, strat style guitar, with a maple neck and rosewood fretboard... I bought the pickup used from a guy on ebay a while back, and I don't think there is anything wrong with it, but there is some kind of an insane, subtle, chimey/ screetchy thing going on in the background when you really crank the amp (I can hear it on all the smashing pumpkin records...). IT could be that the pickup is magnifying something in my maple guitar, or it could be because I wired the pickup straight to the jack (no tone controls etc.), but I haven't noticed it in any other pickup I've tried. This is the first dimarzio I have tried in my guitars. Wouldn't want to post up a bad pickup. If it sounds to you like there is something wrong with this pickup from the description, then I will promptly take this thread down. Again, I don't think there is anything wrong with the pickup, and the sound is subtle, but I just wanted to be totally honest... Any way, let me know!
